  • He wants rigo to be fan friendly. Translation: you either fight like ruslan, rios and pac, take somr brain damage along the way, or i will further distance myself from you and go to every sports journalists that will listen and speak more horrible about you. I will also tell them how HBO is not only throwing up but they have a nervous break down and go insane, and check themselves into an asylum when i mention your name. And if you leave me like oscar and floyd, i will really go to work on you and declare that u are afraid of top rank fighters.

It's all those things. So if you have so much working against you, you do what you can. He can't turn himself into a Mexican or PR, he can't fight at 147, but he can make more exciting fights, and try learning English (far secondary).

He doesn't have to brawl, just not throw 15 punches a round and carry hugely overmatched opponents. No issues with the Donaire fight here

But the difference is he has a fighter with a fanbase to promote and cash in on so he has to salvage that fighter and rebuild him. He was clearly bitter after Donaire's defeat.

HBO calls Crawford the "best lightweight", deflected the blame on the lack of action to the "awkwardness of Klimov" and are clearly interested in having him back on the network. He was even featured in their fall lineup promos.

Rigo has taken 100% of the blame for the lack of action in the Donaire fight (Harold Lederman got on Donaire which I will acknowledge) because he has less fans and generates less money than Donaire.

HBO for years has showcased Chad Dawson, Devon Alexander, Andre Ward and Bernard Hopkins and not once threatened to blackball any of them.
Don't kid yourself. Arum was not bitter about Donaire losing in and of itself, he was bitter about the money he would lose by Rigo not having the capacity to generate the sales he wanted. He knew like anyone in the Boxing business knows that anything can happen in Boxing and that Rigo could win that fight. He saw dollars lost. The reason WHY Arum deflected the blame to Klimov in Crawford's case is because that was a singular case where Crawford was booed. Rigo has been booed at least twice now. And the common denominator between Dawson, Alexander, Ward, and Hopkins is that all are Americans who speak English. For a fighter to not speak English he has to have a gimmick or be hugely exciting or popular, Rigo is neither. Not Rigo's fault, it is just reality.

You don't get it. Arum see EXCITEMENT equate to money, period! That is the reality. He knows if Rigo cannot fill seats, he loses money and especially if HBO won't put him on the air. This is pure common sense.

                • Arum is right but as a promoter he should say the opposite, this kind of public statements will hurt his fighter's marketability, what the hell is he thinking? He must be getting senile.
