No, that's not the way it worked. Lomachenko was one of the most high-profile fighters to ever come out of the amateurs.... When he came to America to look for a promoter, he had everyone- From Top Rank to Golden Boy to Main events wanting to promote him. Obviously the thing he was looking for from a promoter was to fight for a title ASAP, Bob Arum was the one who agreed to it and that's why he signed with him.

Obviously with the pedigree that he has, Arum sees something special and believes he could do it..... He wouldn't and doesn't just take any ole' new signing and throws them into the fire.

I get what you're saying about guys who fought their way to the top, BUT..... It's not like Lomachenko got the shot and pay day and then failed miserably. he completely outclassed the #6 or whatever WBC guy..... he showed he belongs.... so why drop down in competition and fight guys just to pad his record?

Is having 40 fights against truck drivers to pad your record (Canelo) and working your way up through the rankings by smoke and mirrors and a padded record really that much better then working your way up by fighting the top guys from the beginning, and winning?

There's a difference between being handed a belt, and being handed an opportunity to go and get a belt. He wouldn't be fighting for a vacant title against a career loser... He would be fighting a guy like Salido. If he wins, well.... I don't see a problem

      January - Orlando Salido
      April- Chris John
      September - Evgeny Gradovich
      December - Guillermo Rigondeaux

If he beats those guys in 2014 sign me up! I would pay PPV to watch him and Donaire ge it on in 2015.

No doubt, get the fcuk in line behind deserving talent like Orlando and Cristobal Cruz, Kenichi Yamaguchi, Billy Dib and Mauricio Munoz. And the gauntlet Chris John ran through, we demand rematches!

Boxing has taken its role and has embraced its place in sports as a joke. Boxing is not a very popular sport in the U.S., where HBO and Showtime are located. So with that, money talks, always.

Was it fair that Pacquiao and Margarito were able to fight for the 154 WBC title at 150lbs without either of them being ranked in the top 10 at 154? The WBC gave a big middle finger to the JMW division when he accepted that fight.

Lomachenko has some hype around him and he has this prestigious amateur career that leads him to ask for whatever he wants from boxing and he gets it.

So "How are we supposed to take boxing serious"? You are not supposed to take boxing serious.

I feel sorry to all those guys who have boxed for years to become contenders and Lom comes along and gets a shot asap. I guess if you have a big name, you don't have to pay your dues or like in Chavez Junior's case, you can come in at whatever weight you like. What a joke.

Like who do you feel is overdue for a shot at feather? One of these guys: Dib, Fortuna, Marrero, Munoz, Franco, Juanma? Abe Concepcion? Maybe Orlando Cruz rematch?

Oh stop, majority of guys get title shots they don't deserve, salido and Cruz just both got one

Hey moron, don't you think every fighter would like to fight for a world title on their second fight? Ofcourse they do, if not for the title then for the purse, but first they have to prove themselves. I don't care how many olympic medals you have, you still have not proven anything against top professional fighters. Not fair to the fighters that have been fighting for 7-8 years and still have not recieved a title shot.

Well you have to be credible enough to make the network buy into it, and for people to wanna see it. If Salido was to fight Loma's opponent, nobody would wanna pay for it. Why wouldn't you wanna see him challenge Salido, isn't it gutsy as hell? He might well lose, should be exciting. Would you prefer a Cruz rematch? Or are you fronting for some fringe contender in that weight class that wants to cash out vs Salido?

I'm not biased against Lomachenko. I don't share any prejudices about taking a very talented amateur directly to a belt fight. Times have changed -- but I can't forget (for instance) how many difficulties Golovkin and Kovalev had to overcome in order to be recognized as top pro fighters... Even now many people say that "they are not proven yet"...
