Comments Thread For: Lomachenko vs. Salido is Targeted For January 25th

Thomas & Mack Center, Las Vegas - The plan appears to be on schedule. Two-time Olympic gold medal winner Vasyl Lomachenko (1-0, 1KO) will get the opportunity to challenge for a world title on January 25th at The Theater in New York's Madison Square Garden. The talented boxer made his pro debut on Saturday night, where he stopped seasoned fighter Jose Ramirez (24-3, 15KOs) in the fourth round. Ramirez was down twice from hard shots to the body.

The plan, even prior to his debut, was to match him against the winner of Orlando Salido vs. Orlando Cruz, which took place on the same event for the vacant WBO featherweight championship. Salido (40-12-2, 28KOs) knocked Cruz (20-3-1, 10KOs) out in the seventh round to capture the belt. [Click Here To Read More]

If there are ever any guys to move quickly through the pro-ranks, I think it's guys with very well established amature backgrounds such as Vasyl Lomachenko's. Good luck to both fighters, I hope they both show up in great shape and make a great fight in January.

        Experience.

One can not deny lomachenkos talent and skills, with two olympic gold medals in the bag, but the professional ranks is a different ball game. There is no doubt that the kid will become a champion, but it is to soon to put him in there in his second fight. What i saw from the fight last night was that he can fight at distance, but really doesnt know what to do close range and infighting. Put him against a veteran in a championship fight and he will learn with a loss, but if they build him up instead against crafty veterans that can show him some stuff, but are to shot to be competitive for 10-12 rounds and he will build up confidence and polish his skills for the long run. I am very suprised that a experienced promoter as Arum is putting him in a championship fight this early, the guy need at least 1 year in the pro ranks before a titlefight. Many great fighters before him who entered the pro ranks with a gold medal from the olympics, went thru 10-12 opponents before a title fight, and lomachenko should not be an exception.

This is madness lol. Vasyl looked so good last night but Salido is a beast. If Lomachenko pulls this off fml. Automatic star, I can not wait to see this!

I just hope Lomachenko doesn't get used up too quickly, I doubt he will.

Arum must be desperate to get rid of Rigondeaux. Lomachenko looked decent against Ramirez. Mostly due to Ramirez over acting on the knockdowns. Wasn't sure if he didn't respect Ramirez's power or forgot he wasn't wearing headgear, but I felt he was allowing Rameriz to hit him too cleanly to the head during the fight. Lomachenko's style kinda reminds me of Amir Khan's, but with a way better chin (so far).

Time will tell on Lomachenko and I'm looking forward to seeing his next fight. I think the Salido fight is too soon and there is no way he is ready for Rigondeaux.

Too fast IMO. Salido comes non stop and lomachenko will get hit like he's never been hit before

This has nothing to do with Arum. He is only following the contract that Lomochenko wanted.
