Povetkin and his handlers should have been imploring Pabon of the excessive clinching in between rounds. Povetkin was clearly frustrated but it never looked like he took exception to it

AMen. HBO needs to exile wlad. I mean Haye and Povetkin were 2 of the worst TV fights we've seen recently.
I just hope the Freedom's weltsherz, dr. eisenfaust, simurgh, battling nelson and the rst of the klit faithful are at least honest about this pathetic display.Comment

There was nothing Pov could of done without getting dq'd by the biased ref
Also it seems Pov was playing fair unlike dirty wladComment

There are plenty of ways, punch him in the nuts is one of the most drastic counter measures. How do you counter though? You need to work inside, but as soon as you get inside you're immediately hugged and leant on by a much bigger and heavier opponent.
I saw a discussion on this on another site, and the best counter they could come up with was 'punch him in the nuts'. That wouldn't have worked because Pabon was so partial he would probably have DQ'd Povetkin.
Of course, if one manages to foul back without being too obvious, all the better.
I'll take a page from Galento's book and offer a few dirty options.
Two Tons would headbutt his opponent's chest while in a clinch, use his knee to cause discomfort to his genitalia, and literally jump up, so that to shoulder-butt his (taller) opponent.
Of course other minor tricks are included, like throwing an elbow while initiating a clinch, or when working out of it. The most original trick of all though was to not shower the week prior to a fight, so that his 'scent' might discorage his opponent from getting too close
As for the DQ, it is a possibility, but if the referee does nothing, you either retaliate and maybe lose by DQ, or you don't, and lose.Comment

You just need a meanstreak as a Heavyweight if you are small.... Holyfield literally try to spear Lewis in that 1st fight and tried to body slam Lewis .. obviously he lost 12 out of 12 rounds.... but Lewis never tried any dirty tactics against Holyfield.. despite being much bigger.
Somehow I don't think Wlad could have done what he did to Povetkin against Evander of the 90's.Comment

The perfect fighter to beat Wlad would be Lennox: Wlad could not manhandle Lewis in the clinches like he does other fighters, and he couldn't deal with Lewis's jab either. Unfortunately, most of the HWs these days are just fodder for a big, safety-first guy like Wlad. As the article states, Fury, Wilder and Pulev are realistically the only guys you can even imagine troubling Wlad from a stylistic point of view, and even then you're reaching a bit. Wilder is a good 12 months away, Fury could land the fight next summer if he beats Haye, and Pulev... I just see him getting stuck at the end of Wlad's jab/clinched to death, but he might be able to measure Wlad with some counters.Comment

Why is this news? Wlad averages about 60-70 clinches per fight because he's been SHOT since Sam Peter got a hold of him the first fight. This is why he's not on TV in America anymore.Comment

Please stop referring to me as Freedom, I'm not him.
And about the fight, I already criticized Wlad a lot. But don't forget to blame Povetkin, it takes two to tango. Saturday was just a bummer.Comment
