  • Comments Thread For: Delvin Rodriguez: I Got Too Relaxed, Wanted to Continue

Delvin Rodriguez said he left himself vulnerable to the power punches that hurt him and ultimately led to him losing to Miguel Cotto by third-round technical knockout.

“I got a little too much relaxed,” Rodriguez said at the post-fight press conference. “When Cotto got inside and I felt him inside, I didn’t really feel the power. I got too relaxed, then he caught me with the hook, and then I really felt the power. He can hit. … At this level, I should’ve known not to get so relaxed, not even for one second, when you’re facing a guy like Miguel Cotto.”

Cotto wobbled Rodriguez in the final moments of the second round, when Cotto landed a hard right hand just before the bell. Rodriguez shook his head, seemingly trying to clear it as he walked back to his corner. [Click Here To Read More]

Delvin didn't recover from that 1-2 at the end of the second.

Rodriquez was out on his feet momentarily. coto would have landed 2-3 more huge punches if the ref didnt grab cotto. before delvin fell.

though an argument could be made the ropes were holding him up, and the ref could have counted. delvin had nothing left

yea he was out on his feet for not even a second and cotto landed 2 or 3 more punches on him, but the issue is that rodriguez was already on his way down when the ref basically fell on top of him and stopped it

at least give him a chance to get up and make his case to continue, even if it seemed that cotto was getting stronger as the fight went on, I've seen rodriguez in some fights the dude can scrap, but i guess we'll never know

Refs stop fights too early these days.

Exactly, he shouldn't have continued adn the ref was completely right in stopping. Delvin was blinking and wobbly after that 1-2

Delvin could have been seriously injured if the ref had let it continue. Cotto was eating his shots and smashing his body.

I agree the fight could have went on but either way we had already seen enough to know that Cotto was on a different level and Delvin had no chance of winning it would have just been delaying the inevitable while Delvin takes more punishment dude already has slurred speech hes one step away from being punch drunk as it is so I'm glad it was stopped.
