Kobe "Well Jordan is a great player, but you know me as a competitor I ain't gonna say he's the best over me. But I respect him to the fullest.. '
Now let me give you another example:
@Kobe who is the greatest. You or Jordan.
How the Hell is Jordan better? Dude got dominated by the Pistons until he got Scottie.. dude never had no jump shot. What's so cool about retiring and leaving your team? What's so cool about that? Dude was also dominated by T-Mac when he was a Wizard'
You see the difference?
Floyd saying Ali lost to Spinks as a way of discrediting his greatness is the same as Kobe saying Jordan ****** as a Wizard...
Floyd's description of Ali was just overall disrespectful and annoying.
Nobody said Floyd have to admit Ali is greater.. but he should have showed a lot more respect... instead of randomly blurting out Spinks fights and mocking Ali's rope a dope.
Floyd can do or say whatever he wants. Its really that simple

Why does it matter that it was 3 years ago?
It was a silly thing to say, and if the interviewer had wanted to bury Floyd he could have.
Floyd saying Ali lost to Norton 3 times....yet he says repeatedly numbers dont lie. Ali was given the decision twice. Plus many people think Floyd lost to Castillo.
Nothing wrong with Floyd believing he is the greatest. Like he said, he has to. But when challenged on quality of opposition, he says silly things.
I believe all the interviewer had to do was mention the odds before fights. If Floyd fought and beat an opponent now who no one thinks he could, that would rival Ali's win over Foreman.

The difference Floyd is Ali fought everyone in their prime never ducked anyone never retired to avoid the best. He didn't wait till fighters became a shell of their former self to face them. Basicaly he had much bigger balls than you

The fact it was three years ago matters because this was right before the Mosley fight so Floyd was trying to sell that fight and saying something like that which is very controversial is something that draws attention. Also keep in mind how he was getting treated at that point that was the start of the Manny saga so he was already taking heat and was the bad guy to a bunch of people so this was just another brick in the wall and you could say at that point go big or go home because nothing he said would change perceptions at that point.
If he said it yesterday with no real reason to say it or anything to sell, it would be a bit different.

Floyd is ridiculous sometimes. Always saying ****** things to put himself over & try to bury others. It's no wonder he's friends with Triple H.
That said, Floyd is definitely a top 50 all time great. He should be on every single top 50 list whether you despise him or not. I understand why he himself thinks he's the best, but he's not. Rome is right that his quality of opposition just won't put him ahead of legendary fighters before him who have much better resumes. There's absolutely no way anyone would ever put Floyd above Ali or Ray Robinson.Last edited by BIG GUNZ; 10-04-2013, 04:30 PM.
