Comments Thread For: Vargas Confident He Can Shock Juan Manuel Marquez

Undefeated welterweight Jessie Vargas (22-0, 9 KOs), 24-years-old, feels ready to take on the best at 147-pounds. Trained by renowned Mexican trainer Roberto Alcazar (who would lead Oscar De La Hoya to stardom), and promoted by the promoter Top Rank, Vargas wants to take the next step by facing a top gun in his division. Vargas will have one more test on Friday October 11 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. He will face Ghanaian contender Ray Nahr (26-3, 21 KOs). The following night at the same venue, World Boxing Organization (WBO) champion Timothy Bradley will defend against Juan Manuel Marquez . [Click Here To Read More]

Didn't Wale Omotoso give him a hell of a fight? I can't recall, but I don't think Vargas was impressive in that fight if I remember.. If I remember correctly some people said he was gonna be great but failed to prove it to me vs Lucky Boy..

        Lol.

Vargas probably would beat Marquez at this point do to his size and reach advantage at 147 I don't think Marquez has ever fought anyone over 5'9 certainly not recently.. but i don't see this fight happening ever..

Yup he gave him hell but both are much much bigger than Marquez really not even in the same weight class even though Marquez is fighting at 147 obviously hes still not a real WW

Jesse basically said he wants to fight JMM because he thinks JMM is past his prime so he wants to capitalize on it, instead of saying he just wants to fight the best, which would have been much more respectable. Marquez would school Jesse but it goes to show that a lot of prospects are trying to make a name for themselves by simply fighting past their prime champs, instead of worrying about fighting the other top in their prime contenders and waiting their turn to be the top name in their division and earning a real world title shot.
