Beating Stevenson would be a hell of a win, but Froch will have to beat Stevenson, Ward and Hopkins to be considered great. And he doesn't want nothing to do with Ward or Hopkins.
Froch has a BIG Shot at greatness

He has said repeatedly that he's not moving up though. If the Groves-Froch PPV goes well, I can see the likes of Stevenson, Hopkins and maybe even Kovalev dropping to 168lbs to fight him.
In assessing greatness perception of skills doesn't matter, all that matters are the wins on his record.
I say perception, because we can only perceive because we're not in the ring with him to know how skilled he is. On the face of it Wladimir doesn't look that skilled either, it seems like he just sits behind the jab but the reality is he's very skilled. They consistently win fights for a reason.
First let me start by saying it again...........he is a top Level 2 B fighter. I dont care how many wins he has. Joe Calsucky had a boat load of wins and ZERO losses and he one of thee Top B level fighters of all time. Carl Froch won against Kessler I wont deny but he didnt beat the man or school the man like a Floyd did to Guerrero or Canelo.
Froch is tough, has very good speed and a good jab, however he is out of position ALOT, gets hit ALOT, anf is very slow footed and not all that smart of a boxer......................YEAH he is a very good B level fighter for sure!Comment

It's not how many he wins either, it's who he beat. Pascal, Taylor, Dirrell, Kessler, Abraham, Johnson and Bute with a few other lesser wins like Magee, Reid and Mack.First let me start by saying it again...........he is a top Level 2 B fighter. I wouldn't go talking up Guerrero either, his best win at WW was Andre Berto and the Canelo fight was a 23 year old at a catchweight who had just one good win over Trout.
If Froch is a B level fighter, why is he on most pound for pound lists? He's No.5 on this very site. Like I said, if you're not in the ring with him you're not really qualified to assess his level of skill, look at the comments of those opponents that were.Froch is tough, has very good speed and a good jab, however he is out of position ALOT, gets hit ALOT, anf is very slow footed and not all that smart of a boxer......................YEAH he is a very good B level fighter for sure!Last edited by Weebler I; 09-29-2013, 12:23 PM.Comment

I'm a big fan of Froch also. I think where he stands in boxing comes down to whether he can avenge the Ward loss. He has already evened the score with Kessler, and he now wants the Ward fight in England. Ward doesn't seem to fancy the job for whatever reason.Comment

I don't know about the greatness but I would really like to see him fight golovkin.
Not because golovkin is the big name right now, but because of the nature of the fight.
If Ali beat Friezer without any drama he would get less credit for that IMO.Comment

Why is he in the top 5? I will tell you why the Boxing depth is pretty shallow! I dont dis agree that his in the top 10 P4P right now................but in the big scheme of things does that truly make him great..............I think not. It's not how many he wins either, it's who he beat. Pascal, Taylor, Dirrell, Kessler, Abraham, Johnson and Bute with a few other lesser wins like Magee, Reid and Mack.

Your list of his notable wins makes me laugh! How many of those wins did he dominate his Foe? I mean truly dominate them? He does not adapt all that well either, he got his pummeled by Ward, Schooled, ***** slapped! when ever he faces a top level guy it will happen over and over again!
Thats what happens to B level fighters, they just cant get over the top tier guys. I am not damning him hell I thing for the skill set he has he has done a damn good job,Using great in the sentence is crazy wrong................there is NOTHING Great about Froch!!! Nothing!Comment

I don't know. Froch is ok. Potential great? That's tough for me to agree with. I don't think Froch will ever beat Ward and I whole heartedly believe that he lost to Dirrell. Beating Stevenson wouldn't mean much but it would be a good fight.Comment

That hasn't applied to ther great fighters in the past, why should it apply to Froch? Hagler never beat Leonard, neither did Benitez or Hearns. Tyson didn't beat Lewis or Holy and so on and so forth. But even if Froch doesn't avenge his loss to Ward, if he goes out of his way to fight top light heavies, wins and becomes lineal champ, he'd have achieved greatness. He'd have beaten almost all the relevant names in 2 weight divisions, that's a rarity in boxing.Comment

I just don't see Froch moving up. He's been very vocal about being against moving up.That hasn't applied to ther great fighters in the past, why should it apply to Froch? He said he'd rather go down than up.
I think he walks around and comes to the ring at about 170-172 lbs.Comment

Very true, Froch has often spoken about feeling comfortable at 168. But as I said in my original post, Froch has the opportunity here, does Hearn to create something truly great. Whether or not they take this opportunity is up to them.
Interesting you mentioned going down. A 160 run against Martinez and then Golovkin/Quillin?Comment
