Comments Thread For: Chavez Jr. Tested, Wins Unpopular Decision Over Vera

Vera pushed the issue early against Chavez, but in the end, he was the one backing up. His punches lost steam and it was probably just like he said. He never fought above 170 lbs.
Junior knew that he couldn't trade with Vera. Vera loves a good scrap. Junior moved, gave Vera angles until he thought that it was safe to trade. Smart. Vera had a big chance, and he lost it...possibly through no fault of his own.
I don't condone what Junior did with the multiple weight issues that were finally agreed upon. That disgusted me, but Junior won make no mistake about it. I couldn't give Vera 6 rounds, and on my card, but had a chance for a draw going into the 10th on my card.
Vera showed enough that I'll watch him until he retires.

The sport has reached a stage where a fairly significant portion of it's following actually view work rate - regardless of how totally ineffective it is - as the main criteria to scoring a fight.
Sad times.

horrible, disgraceful decision -- when one guy outlands the other by a 3-2 margin overall and in 8 f 10 rounds he can't lose by scores like that, which made it appear that it wasn't even a competitive fight -- all Chavez did in his post-fight is whine about non-existent low blows and imaginary head butts while claiming a phantom fractured hand as an excuse for his mostly awful performance -- said he would have stopped Vera very "soon" anyway but when? today? next Wednesday? -- this after he lost the last 3 rounds by consistently keeping out of harm's way -- basically backpedalled without attempting to throw anything for the last 3 rounds, running out the clock because he knew he couldn't lose on a decision -- of course he won't give Vera a deserved rematch -- his people have protected and coddled him his whole career, puffing him up as some sort of budding superstar -- last night they kept telling him what a great job he was doing between rounds despite his showing little in most of them -- was gassed after 6 rounds due to lack of training and eating too many donuts -- he didn't even try to win rounds the hard way by earning them because he knew that he'd get the decision no matter what....

Thank you for acknowledging that you do factor in work rate with regards to scoring a fight. Are you 100% **** wrong? Of course. But at least your honest in your own ignorance/naivety.
Good boy.

Sorry lad, but the scoring criteria is not based on landing more punches - there is a difference between how a bout is scored in the professional game and how it's scored in the amateur game.
Merely pointing out the official scoring criteria - effective aggression, defense, ring generalship and clean, effective punching (you know hat that is, don't you?) - doesn't make you a hipster, just a boxing fan.
