Tessitore still sounds like he's calling MMA fights sometimes...the MMA commentators have certain pseudo aggressive tone about them kind of like Mike Goldberg who I despise lol.

Bernstein is obviously very well respected, very unbiased and knows his shiet but he doesn't have a lot of personality.

Paulie is like the boxing version of Joe Rogan...which is a huge compliment. Joe Rogan is another incredible commentator.

In fact, my favorite commentators are...

    1. Larry Merchant
    2. Paulie Malignaggi
    3. Joe Rogan
    4. Max Kellerman
    5. Jim Lampley

Imagine fights called with a mix of these guys?

Teddy Atlas' analogies have become annoying lol...but some are great...

"He needs to put some more bugs on the windshield" = Blind him with jab

"He needs to show what happens to uninvited guests when he comes through the door" = Make him pay when he comes inside

"Don't wait for the receipt" = Hit and move

Paulie could be an ATG. Him and Max K. are the future of boxing commentary.

These are guys who I say are good or would be good if they did do it:

            Paulie
            Ward
            Haye
            Hopkins
            Nonito
            Froch
            Malik Scott
            Amir Khan

Some for their intelligence, some for how articulate they are and some for their ability to just talk. LOL

Atlas frequently pontificates, over-analyzes the fights to death and talks over the action way too much. He sucks as scoring fights as well and always shows bias towards the more technical fighter even if said fighter is playing defense the whole round.

His predictions are awful as well. He frequently totally gets 'em wrong and there was a stretch a few years back when he picked against Wladimir Klitschko in maybe 5 or 6 fights; it was blatantly biased and unprofessional.

His sidekick Joe Tessitore constantly 'nuthuggs' Atlas to no end during their broadcasts; it's like everything Atlas says, Joe takes as gospel. It's sickening...

Sorry bro, I just had to get that off my chest...nonono:

atlas, perhaps more than any of the others, is called upon to be subjective. the fights aren't always sufficient content for prime time TV. atlas has to talk about a fight between 150th ranked guys in the same tradition that maligniaggi has to talk about top 10 contenders and world champions. he talks more about flaws than skills because that's what he's looking at.

he has to analyze to the point of minutae. you can't just cut away and not talk the way you can during a great fight between greats on HBO and showtime. as lampley said about the diaz - marquez fight after not talking for a minute and a half "why should fights like this even be scored?"

atlas gives the same attention to detail in a four rounder between debuting fighters that he does a crossroads fight between former champions. lampley wouldn't even commit their names to memory. you're talking about completely different planets in terms of the product you're covering.

I love his insight. He is really good at explaining what each fighter is doing right and wrong.

Kinda rash to take one incident and lump Bernstein in with the rest of the rabble. He is by far one of the best to do it.

at first it sounds like a bit much to say that he's a more talented announcer than boxer, given that he's a two weight world champion, but he is.

the guy is going to be calling fights forever. unless his mouth outisde of the ring get him in trouble, he will be on showtime until he gets old.

he's funny, extremely informative, and charming. he's the perfect expert commentator. he provides the perspective of a fighter.

that is not an easy job, the way some might expect, but it's got to be one of hte best jobs on the planet. six figures to watch fights from ringside and travel the country / world? sign me up.

i will sell my truck and account, and quit my job tomorrow.
Paulie i much better than Roy or Emmanuel (rip) IMO. He gives off the vibe that hes had to explain to his friends about the subtle points of boxing for years, especially since he doesn't have any power.

Its like he's talking to his boys while they are watching fights.

Now if we cbs/showtime will just fire that clown **** with the glasses and send him back to MMA id be content.
