He possibly has fell in love with his power a bit. He was throwing single shots, loading up for most part.

I feel Garcia was very fortunate myself to get away with the stuff he did but credit to the kid, he studied Lucas well and fought a very smart fight. He showed me a lot I didn't think he was capable of.

Lucas hasn't been exposed, hes not overrated he just fell short against a top fighter who came prepared.
I'd still pick Lucas in a rematch. I think he just needs a few minor adjustments.

I am not sure how people can say hes overrated, a hypejob etc because of one close loss to the world #1 seems a bit silly to me. Lucas will be back, hes a tremendous fighter. I'm sure he'll of learned a lot from saturday night.

Considering he was almost blind in one eye for most of the second half I think he did well to make adjustments & get himself back in the fight.

He needs to stop throwing so many single shots.

I'd like to see him jab more. He has a very good jab and it has such power its unreal but he neglected it badly.

He'd be jabbing and snapping Garcia's head back then he'd just stop jabbing his way in.

He needs more variation on the jab. Jabbing to the body, chest to set up his right hand & varying the speed of it.

Maybe work on feinting.

I'd say he worked this out but not until around the 9th when his eye was gone.

From a technical standpoint this was the worst I've ever seen him fight. He was extremely tentative, didn't use his right to the body nearly as often as usual, loaded up on wild shots, I was very disappointed. Like dan said, by the time he started figuring anything out he had lost too many rounds and his eye was shut.

Matthysse needs to work on his defense accordingly to his opponent, As Danny got the early rounds due to his punch variety, I got the impression he wanted Danny to respect him and decided to eat shot to land shots, And it backfired when his eye took damage.

Interesting take. I had Matthysse up 4-2 after 6 and Garcia only landed something like 24% of his punches up to that point. Conversely, Lucas had landed at a 36% rate (where he would end the fight at) and had outlanded him as well. You can't rely on compubox numbers to give you a completely accurate view of the fight, but I think they support my scoring.

Danny was clutch on Saturday when he was able to bust up Lucas' eye and knock him down in the 11th. Otherwise, he may not have been able to pull it out. Props to him though for fighting his fight.

take a step back when throwing combinations so he doesn't smother his work and get clinched. probe with the jab. tuck his arms in and throw shorter punches on the inside instead of looping them in where the opponent can easily duck them.

Matts didn't throw the straight or the left hook to the body as much for fear of getting countered and later to protect his eye. Also, clinching and lack of in-fighting didn't do his offense any favors. Once a pressure fighter can't establish a rhythm and their offense isn't flowing, they look bad. I haven't watched the fight over, but I can't remember at any point where LM got into an offensive rhythm.
