Probably to get the fight(s) that he knew wouldn't happen otherwise.

because Arum had a picture of Tony Margarito in his office and Cotto was horribly tormented by it

              He's a free agent

I'm sure TR is offering better fight alternatives, therefore he's there. If GBP offers him something lucrative, then he'll go back.

His lawyer said he did not sign any options or long term deals. Fight by fight basis. So whoever bringing the cash, gets to fight Cotto.

Looking at GBP and TR, who other than Canelo and Floyd offer as much greenback as fights with JMM, Martinez and Pacquiao, all fighting on HBO. He took meager money against someone like Trout, and for what a rangy, awkward prime guy that he shouldn't have fought, but you know, that fight set up what now is Canelo/Floyd so its whatever.

But GBP has nothing right now that is lucrative

he's not back with them as far as signing a contract with top rank. they are just co-promoting his fight just like when golden boy co-promoted his last couple of fights. cotto is still a free agent and is his own promoter.
