TV helped ruin boxing in the late 50s thru the 60s because people stayed home instead of going to the local shows that were every where back then. Today theres few shows and NO REAL sports reporters to cover them and help promote the sport on a local level!!!! These jerks on TV sport shows are all about the NFL because you don't need any knowledge of the game to cover it!!
I live in between Sarasota and Ft. Meyes Florida, they are decent size cities with a huge county population attached. I've lived here for 20 yrs (east coast)(3 yrs east coast) theres been a total of 10 shows in this area! Most were to promote some heavyweight local kid that fizzled once they brought in guys that wouldn't fall down.
Tampa is 2 hours and theres decent gyms and former fighters who had world wide fame but no one promoter has retapped the area! Why? NO following!!
Years ago everyone knew the top ten contenders in the classes now theres 30 top ten guys in each class thanks to all the BS federations so who could blame anyone who tries to follow this crap???
We'll see how Oscar and Floyd will do with promotions, most likely the same crap that the old regieme did. The young become the old quickly! Ray
