i like martinez but honestly, i've never looked at him as like a truly GREAT fighter in the class of a duran, leonard, hearns, hagler or hopkins. he's on the level of a de la hoya, winky and trinidad.

In duran's eyes: nobody today would be anything more than a journeyman,
the dude is turning into a big time hater

It's not on to talk about a fighter like that just because they fight in a different era to you, how does he know what Sergio would have been like against fighters of his day? It's a sport and it evolved so quit complaining old man and salute your fellow succeeders. You were a great boxer in your day, don't disrespect another mans glory.

Even that's giving him way too much credit. I don't understand why people continue to elevate Martinez beyond the level that he's always been. He's been a really good fighter over the last couple of years, but hasn't done or shown anything to suggest that he's really more than that.

Imagine if the JJC Jr fight was a 15 rounder. Martinez would've gotten KTFO
And Jr was high on weed when he fought him. And Martinez clearly lost against Murray but got a hometown decision.
Martinez has always been overrated on NSB

The problem i have with duran is that everytime he talks about the current guys he is always putting them down,, maybe if he wasnt always negative, his opinion would get trashed as much,,
But everytime i see a duran quote he is always negative, so its hard to take him as an unbiased opinion
