Margarito never gassed and his relentless pressure, size (heavy, tall, long arms), and high output would have probably given Floyd his most physically demanding fight. There's a good reason why Floyd didn't want this fight.
No doubt, Margarito is tall and big, has a longer reach than Mayweather, hits harder than Baldomir and is more resilient than Ortiz.
But if I think of how Margarito fought, I really can't see him win against Mayweather.
First off, he's always been rather predictable, not exactly fleet footed and his defense is below average at best. He struggled against mobile, faster fighters. And Floyd is not only faster of hand and foot, but also a much better boxer.
Let's dismiss the Pacquiao fight, how about Mosley? (a 4-1 underdog at the time).
Margarito struggled with Mosley's speed when they traded, got outboxed when Mosley decided to box (the 2nd round for instance), got outsmarted (in the 3rd) allowing Mosley to steal the round. In the 6th and 7th Margarito decided to let his hands go, showing great heart, yet most of his punches were dodged or blocked and he got countered with hard shots.
In my opinion Mayweather would win by decision rather easily, pot shotting Margarito as he comes in, countering when forced to trade, clinching, spoiling (running if you will) and stealing rounds when the need arises.

He has heavy hands and underrated defense an can cut off the ring well. Guerrero has good skills and boxing technique but Margo is on a whole mother level with his style. I think Margo stops the ghost in about 6-8 rounds another thing Margo does better then the ghost is body punching too.

I remember when Frankie Randall knocked him down, it was a shocker. I had never seen Chavez take a step back, let a lone get knocked down.

keep in mind that you are 15 years older than i am, rofl.
when chavez was in his prime i was a child.
he also saw punches very well for a guy who came forward, did chavez. margarito didn't see shots until they bounced off his forehead.Last edited by New England; 09-03-2013, 08:36 AM.

It's true what you said though, Chavez had great head movement. Marg actually wasn't that bad with his catches and parries but he was fearless in the way he came forward.
