i know it's evidently tough for some to handle, but that's the truth. prove me wrong. don't blame bob arum. he'd put money into this kid if he knew he'd get some out on the other end. if they put him on a card in miami i want to see you ringside. buy those tickets the second they come out on sale.
You don't think $750,000 is putting money into him? And his contract expired after the Marroquin fight but Arum signed him to an 18 month extension with a big per contract minimum. Arum has said some things but if what he does with his pockets is any indication he's made a significant investment here.

if the intention is to let him age, and he can tie him up for a couple years of his prime, then $750 grand may be worth it. he'll look at earnings for TR in the long run, keeping the interests of fighters other than just rigondeaux in mind, namely donaire. arum is looking for the next manny pacquaio. when manny retires there's going to be a huge void left behind, and some pinoy fighter is going to get the spotlight by default. there's much more than seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars to be made there. it's a pipe dream, but arum wants donaire to be the next pacquiao.

let me get this straight, do you think arum has some sort of vendetta against rigondeaux? he's making a move in top rank's best interest, not to spite guillermo rigondeaux.

it's quite clear that he wants donaire to succeed over rigondeaux. he's got both tied up and he's going to let rigondeaux sit. he'll fight TBA's. it's a classic don king tactic. if he tries to get out of it arum will take him to the cleaners, and delay the process as long as he can.

Yeah man, there has been plenty of local advertisement for him too. I think on one of billboards off a major highway..

Having multiple titles in your circle is a good thing due to the network and promotional wars that are going on. Because Rigondeaux had the titles occupied, Mares had to move up because he couldn't get any big fights at 122. And as we saw last week, it looks like it was too early of a move. So that's one fighter out of the picture. Santa Cruz will move up next after a fight or two.

Arum doesn't have a vendetta against him. In an interview 2 years ago he even said Donaire couldn't beat him. He got him the big fight he wanted and he signed him to a big contract extension. If he had a vendetta against him he would have kept Donaire away from him like Lara/Canelo. The reason they couldn't agree to a September fight was because Top Rank wanted him to take a pay cut below what his contract is worth. His choice of words has been questionable but he's mad because he just lost millions because his "next Manny Pacquiao" looked more like Mercito Gesta.

And Donaire has moved up. He's long gone at this point.

I think he will fight out his contract and move on. He just may have to travel and wait for another hypejob to come along.

I think If they market him better and longer and build him up even more...a Home town fight in Miami will make big bucks. People will be willing to pay more. Just Cuban fans isnt gonna cut it. They need other fans as well. Better believe a fight in Miami is in the making. But with who and when and the build up all play a part. One thing they dont wanna do is put him in with a club fighter and something bad happen in Miami. He still just 12 and 0 with a couple of good names on his resume. Just a few years ago i was watching him in the Fontainbleau Hotel, on Miami beach. why rush it?
Mainly because Rigo's no spring chicken.

But, yeah, the Miami area is ready for a big boxing show right now. I don't see why not. Miami Beach is a sexy destination. There's money, women, even casinos in South Florida. And it's a cosmopolitan area, with people from all over the world, especially Latin America.

You're right about something else: it'll take more than just Cubans to fill a good sized arena. But that shouldn't be a problem with the right lineup and proper promotion.

The exterior still has many of the original stuff including the chairs, pictures on the wall, statues, flamingos. There is even ancient looking jockey scale which I ran into while checking out the track which to my surprised was on point and accurate.
Check out the movie "The Champ" from 1979. The movie had plenty filming at Hialeah and you can see how it was then at least. It's a classic site.

I took part in the opening of the casino as I work for one of the major slots vendor. According director of slots if things keep up they'll be expanding the casino and hopefully hosting big events.
Man, it's been years since I watched "The Champ." Now I'll have to. lol

It sounds like the commercial with Willie hyped the place up to look better than it actually is. That's good advertisement. lol

"You look at a Marcos Maidana, a Josesito Lopez, a Danny Garcia, a Lucas Matthysse, an Amir Khan, a Canelo, a Kirkland, an Angulo, and the list goes on and on. That's what the fight fans and the TV networks want to see. They are very invested in winning and losing, but they want to see exciting fights. It used to be a for a long time, that you had to go back in line and start over again. That's not the case anymore. Josesito Lopez, just because he lost - it doesn't mean he goes back to the end of the line, he's right back in the mix. I think up until a few years ago that's' not the way boxing worked. I think we took a page out of the UFC's playbook, because with the UFC excitement is rewarded," Schaefer said to BoxingScene.com

"I think TV networks, at least Showtime, is rewarding excitement as well. When you see a fight like a Rignodeaux or a Gamboa - they don't have very crowd pleasing styles. And I think as a result it makes them much more difficulty to sell, and it has nothing to do with promoting."
There are lots of idiots in this site. It's easier for them to blame Arum than actually use their brains. What else could you possibly do as a promoter when the problem lies in the boxer himself who was booed mercilessly in his last fight?

It's not even Arum, it's HBO, if you want to blame it on someone or something.

Um, Rigo was booed by the predominantly Donaire crowd that night. Even the fight stats show that Nonito threw less punches than Guillermo. If that fight was boring, which I don't believe it was, it was because of Donaire, not "El Chacal."

Very true. And him not being a spring chicken... i can see that point as well. Youre 100% right there and that was a factor i did over look.
That is a rock in a hard place. You dont wanna move to fast but then again you cant afford to wait to long. Hes been fighting 3-4 times a year. Except in 2011 he only fought once. If he can do that for a few years and dominate...i think he will be okay. Its just the question is whos gonna be the big hit in a few years. Or is a few years to long? Excellent point though.
