I was on the Andre Dirrell hype train for a while. He was a very talented Detroit fighter and I always liked his style. I didn't fault him for the way the Abraham fight ended like a lot of other people did. But then he ducked Andre Ward with some shady bull**** doctor's note excuse and then hid behind lawyers to keep from being accountable to any questions. Made me feel bad that I stuck up for the guy after the Abraham DQ.
Name the Hype job that had u fooled?

Allan "BIG MOUTH" Green. Even though I didn't think he'd be a division kingpin. I thought he'd be a top dog. I guess the KO of Coddrington had me sold.
Jeff "NO HOOK" Lacy, never thought he'd get dominated the way he did by Joe C, but i did pick Joe to win, @ the time I thought Joe was better than given credit for. I picked Joe by split dec, not utter dominance.
Jorge "BLEED TO EASY" Linares, the way he was being hyped, and how HBO, Steward and the eniter commentating team was comparing him to SRR during the Demarco fight. Was mind boggling!!Comment

Jeff Lacy, Andre Berto and Jorge Linares on the top of my dome.
Lucian Bute or Abner Mares still have a chance to redeem themselves, if they don't bounce back and keep getting exposed than they will be hype jobs as well. They still have a shot to prove that those stoppages were just obstacles to overcome like when Lennox got KO'd he bounced back.Comment

IMO Abner Mares needs no redeeming. He's a solid fighter that met his match in overlooked Jhonny Gonzalez, I have no doubt that he'll come back in top form. I never thought of him as a "hyped" fighter, and he's already proven himself against a lot of great opposition.Jeff Lacy, Andre Berto and Jorge Linares on the top of my dome.

Mayorga and Juan Ma
I thought Mayorga's explosive power would decimate the division. After his fights with Forrest and Six Heads I thought he would be a force in the division.
When I first saw this feather weight who looked like a down sized Joe Louis....Knocking every other guy out....Man I thought Juan Ma would parley that power, that power so rare for the midgets! Oh well.

Couldn't agree morejermain wasnt a hype job at all. he is a textbook example of what happens when a fighter who came from nothing have too much success too soon and lose their drive and motivation.
taylor was really good when he fought hopkins and could have went on to become great. he was a hungry fighter who worked his ass off year round and having seen most of his early fights (unlike most ppl here) i know how much he he was improving each time out.
but then he won the title, got three big paydays in a row and got lazy. he stopped training between fights to improve his skills and boxing intelligence and just sat around getting fat. when a fight came close he would get in camp too late first of all, and then proceeded to spend the entire time just losing weight in preparation for the scale with hardly no preparation for the actual fight.
his skills declined and he started creating bad habits. showing up in poor shape made him lose much of his speed and strength and all of his stamina. as a result he fought in a different style attempting to just steal rounds while preserving energy as opposed to the "bad intentions" of old who got in there and went to work with just that.. bad intentions.
whenever ppl ask hopkins or marquez when they will retire they always say the same thing, "when they dont have the drive to pay the prize to be on top". jermain lost that but kept fighting. he lost his way but he was the real deal or at least could have been, he just didnt want it bad enough. by the time he realized his mistake his body had taken too much abuse inside and outside the ring for him to get back on track.

I agree, I disagree with the people saying he was exposed. If he got knocked out he can bounce back just like bute, we have to give him a chance before labeling him a hype.IMO Abner Mares needs no redeeming. Also JTaylor wasn't over hyped. No, matter how you put it he dethroned one of the best middleweights ever twice " No Controversy/Bad Decision'' Just a close fight JT won on youth, activity, and agression. Yes agression, JT's agression was effective even though he wasn't landing @ a high percentage, he was nullifying BHOP's offense and controlling BHOP with his jab, it wans't until later in the fight BHOP came on, and by that time he gave too many rounds away, and a few of the late rounds were close too. Same as the 2nd fight. Bhop is considered a top 5 middleweight of all time, and when his time is done I can bet my life he will move up around 10-15 GOAT list. Also some of you would say he lost to Wright. Its Wright fault he would shell up and let Taylor hit him while doing nothing, until JT would go to the ropes and corner. I watched the fight live and over and over, while in the middle of the ring JT was putting a boxing lesson on Wright. Even the commentators would acknowledge that. If you think I'm making this up or being bias. I would advise you to go back and watch the full broadcast, and you would see. Also JT froze Wright a few times throughout the fight, with his powerful right cross that made winky stop dead in his tracks. Now it was a close fight, but i felt JT edged wright. JT accomplished a lot more than the guys that are being named in this thread, most of these guys named didn't even make champion status yet. Nor were they the Alpha dog of their division like JT was. Also take into account what BHOP is doing late in his career, only enhances JT. Also how is Fernando Vargas a hype job??

There are far too many examples of idiocy in this thread for me to address personally, but it's pretty clear that we have another case of a boxing term being thrown around far too loosely.
Sure, because being thrown in with the likes of Yori Boy Campas, Raul Marquez, Winky Wright, Ike Quartey and Felix Trinidad within your first 21 professional bouts is a classic example of a hypejob, isn't it?
