Being an amateur myself, I did not read that ridiculously long post, I give newcomers a dose of reality all the time in my gym. The real question is this: Did you call him a tomato can to his face with seriousness? I am willing to bet you didn't. Gotta love an armchair warrior. Never call a man something behind his back you wouldn't say to his face, unless you aren't a man.

And to answer the question below that, I spar a pro (with a low cout of fights still, but a pro none the less) semi-frequently, since one trains with my trainer and I knew him before he turned pro. How do I fare? If he is going light with me, I can get the better of him, but if he turns it up, I have no chance, his skill level and conditioning dwarf mine, and his fundamentals are more solid.

That is literally how 99% of the trolls/idiots on this site use the term. So your first paragraph is moot.

You must have sparred with me.

I have been boxing for 4 years, i'm 19. I sparred 2 pros, neither all that successful and did fairly decent but they definitely got the better of me. But they were much better than any amateurs I sparred, people who call fighters "bums" and even insult the best fighters need to come to my gym sometime and they can see how hard it is. I enjoy having people who think they're tough come into the gym and spar them, so many people at the gym I go to have quit after their first sparring session. Most people on here have never boxed in their lives and have no idea how hard it really is. You can see and get an idea on 24/7 and All Access but until you do it you'll never really know. When I train for Golden Gloves it's absolute hell. That's why I don't post on here much anymore cause most of the posters have no ****ing clue what they're talking about. They're just casual fans who like Mayweather, Canleo, and Pacquaio. Pfft. BOXING IS HARD.

Well , he doesn't know I'm an Atheist, I don't want to break his heart. The first day he met me, he came up to me and said "Coach, I see something special in you, you are a great person and god has a plan for you"

He really gravitated towards me for some reason. He really is a good person at heart. He gives so much, spars with all my amateurs and spends time with them teaching them and going over things with them.

I really like the guy and have done everything to help him as much as possible.

Ice John Scully has told me many stories about how some tough guy off the streets will come in to his gym with a big mouth and leave with his tail between his legs. A guy like that tough guy will come in a spar some guy with a 2-6 record and the guy with the 2-6 record will toy with the tough guy till he decides to turn it up and put that guy out of his misery. I would be willing to bet that any guy ever on these boards no matter what size or athletic shape who never boxed would be destroyed by a 10-6 middleweight fighter. That goes without saying.

I can tell you something that happened about 8 months ago. We have this Puerto Rican kid who is a 140lb fighter, amateur with no more than 13 or so fights.

This one kid was in the gym for about a week, and he was walking around like he was a tough guy. He kept asking me to spar, I told him I didn't want him to get hurt. He laughed and said he would be the one hurting people.

So I finally let him spar and instead of letting him spar someone with less experience, I wanted him to spar the PR kid because he can work with him and not hurt him.

well the kid went crazy in the ring and got his ass beat, and beat bad. He had a bloody nose, black eye and was just taken to school by someone who was about 20lbs lighter.

We had to escort him out of the gym because he was threatening to beat the Puerto Rican dude up saying that boxing isn't **** and that he's really a street fighter.

They just don't have a clue....

Of course I didn't. You misunderstood the post, it was quote unquote "tomato can" meaning supposed tomato can, quote unquote bum, etc., etc. My whole thread was about everyday people calling pro boxers bums and thinking they can take them out. Read my post again and maybe you'll have better understanding.

I don't like when fans call boxers "bums" but let's face it it's not like these armchair experts think they can do it better than the pro fighters. Compared to the very best those guys aren't all that great that's why they call them bums garbage..etc

Awesome story. Are you being serious because that sounds like something Hatton would say.

I sparred David Tua last year and he gave me hell. I hurt him a few times and dropped him twice, but overall I give him the edge.

Fans shouldn't call boxers bums imo. Trainers, boxers okay, but not fans.
