You'd have to show me a source for that. I've never heard or seen anything that would indicate that the decision was controversial.

Everything I've ever read about it suggests that Johnson had the best of it.

same here to be honest, Johnson seemed to do a good job against Langford, which he should against a guy who was MUCH smaller

I'll see if I can find one. I've never seen the fight, I don't even think there's footage about it. Just read multiple times that observers felt Langford won.

Having looked more into it now, it was apparently just Langford's team's propoganda to secure Langford a shot at the proper title.

One thing that is interesting though is that Langford was the #1 contender for years, but Johnson never gave him a second chance.

By all accounts Johnson beat him handily.

Langford was green at the time though. He ducked the rematch when Langford was improved, experienced and in position.

I'm not sure if it was a duck, it was more to do with the politics at the time. Would an all black, HW showdown have generated as much cash as Johnson v any great white hope? Would the boxing authorities have asked for it? Plus there were already riots surrounding Johnson fights, what would Johnson v a black contender have produced? We have to take all that into account.

I think politics would be a factor not so much cash.

Johnson was on record refusing to fight Langford. I don't think he had any interest in rematching him and he should have rematched him.

What does that have to do with my post?

                  He did avoid the rematch.
