I hope what happened to JuanMa against Salido doesn't happen to Mares as well...that will surely ruin him.

Good luck man. This will be the toughest test of his career. He will struggle with his opponent and his own confidence. I'll be rooting for Mares though.

Props to Mares, but he better works on some things, cause there was no lucky punch that night. I'll cheer for him, the way he handle himself after the lost make me a fan, WAR Abner!!!!

He should take some time off, work on some things, and maybe take a tuneup. Instead he could very well get KO'd again. Gonzales and Nacho might turn out to have the kid's number - it certainly appeared that way last weekend.Originally posted by iloveboxing2 View PostNot a good idea, Abner. KO, was not a fluke. Jhonny was moving well and connected with solid left hook but it didn't end there. Jhonny's killer instinct ended Abner's undefeated run with a barrage of punches to Mares face. If they fight again, we will see same result. Just like Juanma and Salido.
Jhonny can move, has speed and power and Mares doesn't really have good defense from a left hook. 1st rd and 12 rd performance defines a great boxer.

If Mares was smart, he'd get some R&R, figure out what happened, go back to the drawing board and plot a strategy for victory in the rematch. That takes more than four days, and obviously a warm-up fight should be seriously considered too.
Mares might have the ability to beat Gonzalez, but given how quickly Jhonny disposed of him, the stakes are really high. Another knockout loss could really hurt Mares' future prospects.

Good thing you're not a matchmaker since we've seen plenty of examples where the person who lost the first fight came back to win the second fight.
