He did well against Trout, better than most people make out. I think I had it like 7-5 for Trout but it wasn't like Cotto was outclassed.
Was Cotto a Good Win for Trout?

Did Cotto ever get a top level win early in his career? Remind me of who it was he beat?i called him shot and knew he wouldnt beat trout,,,,,
like i said,,, it was trout's first big fight,,, much like when canelo fought mosely,,, or when danny fought morales,,, or when jermain taylor fought joppy.....
present day cotto isnt a great win for a guy of floyd's caliber or anyone on the p4p list....
but he was stil the best win for trout because trout hadnt had any big fights yet....
Like i said before,, cotto is kinda a stepping stone for younger guys now if he continues to fight,,, i said after the margs fight that cotto was ruined and when never beat high caliber fighers again,,, and after manny crushed him there is no way cotto ever gets another top level win like earlier in his career,,,,
he is just a stepping stoneComment

What's up with all the whiny Floyd fanboy threads recently?
Mayweather has, as he likes to remind everyone, been on top for years. Why would you compare his opposition to a relative newcomer like Trout?Comment

So Cotto is a cherrypick for Mayweather but a great win for Trout?Comment

It's a decent win for Trout. It was Trout's first really big fight and he was the betting underdog against Cotto. He performed well and got a very convincing decision in New York where which is basically Cotto's backyard.
Cotto is still well past his prime but a past prime Cotto is the best win on Trout's resume because he's relatively new on the big stage.
How can you even think that it's comparable to Mayweather fighting Cotto? Mayweather has been at the top level for a number of years and you're directly comparing him to Trout who's got half the experience? What kind of thought process is that?Comment

That's what amazes me about these whining Mayweather fangirls. When it suits them, they want Floyd to put on a pedestal as the greatest of his era.
But when they want to have a huge hissy fit, they'll happily compare him directly to someone like Austin Trout who was virtually unknown before the Cotto fight
