The issue is not as simple. its silly to think that mexicans only live in Mexico given the presence of the mexican community in the US. The Mexican case is especially true due to the fact that Mexico is close and a lot of these guys grow up speaking spanish and in culturally Mexican homes, usually in ethnic enclaves.

Ask the average american if Mikey is American, and most will say Mexican. Remember, we live in a country where looking Mexican is deemed su****ious of illegal status. So its no surprise that even Mike Alvarado will find solace in his Mexican roots (though of course i agree that his claims are weaker)

So, feel free to count them as Americans, but guys like Mikey, Leo Santa Cruz, Omar Figueroa, Josesito Lopez, etc. will tell you that they are Mexican. I am biased towards their own words.
