      Brilliant!

The fight was over. The thread comparing it to Taylor vs Chaves is idiotic. Taylor had fought 12 long, HARD rounds and had 3 seconds to go in the fight.

It was the first round, Mares wasn't going to survive.

BUT and its a big BUT. Im a massive Cotto fan. He was twice as bad as Mares was when Torres was rocking him around the ring for a entire round, and he came back and won.

The only punch that "hurts" Marquez is the one Pac lands when Marquez is on the ground.

i would have given him some more time, an eight count at least. i still cant say it was stopped early though. mares got dropped hard and was badly hurt, ref gave him a chance to continue and he showed no survival skills at all. went in there trading, left himself wide open and got dropped hard again. like i said i would have given him a bit more time, but you cant really complain about the refs decision.

The ref should have given him a count and asked if he was alright and then made him come forward to see if he could continue. Maybe there is a new two knockdown rule in boxing. This was a high profile title fight. He should at least given him a count.

A referee is not supposed to take the clock into consideration, if the fighter cant continue he cant continue. Mares was obviously very hurt and the fight was stopped like it should have been, just because Mares is everybodys new golden boy it doesn't mean Gonzalez should have to beat him twice in one night to get the win.

I agree that he should've prob given a count but what people seem to be forgetting is that Mares was on the canvas at the time of stoppage. People are going on as if the ref waved it off with Mares on his feet or that Mares would've definitely beat the count. He wasn't on his feet and it's not a given he was going to beat the count.

                      early stoppage?

dude was hardly conscious when he was knocked down a second time. the ref doesn't wait for 10 seconds if a guy is that badly hurt, and he shouldn't. he took one look at mares and saw what he needed to see.

                      great stoppage.
