Comments Thread For: Sergio Martinez Should Return in March or April

Pablo Sarmiento, the trainer of WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (51-2-2, 28KOs), expects his fighter to return in March or April of next year. Martinez suffered several injuries during April's twelve round unanimous decision victory over British contender Martin Murray. Pablo says there have been zero discussions regarding Sergio's next opponent. The biggest fight for Sergio in 2014 will IBO/WBA champion Gennady Golovkin - if he defeats Curtis Stevens in November.

Would love to see him in there with GGG but... it will be kind of sad to see Maravilla leave on a stretcher

Sergio's been through a few wars. Hope he has enough left for a Golovkin fight.

I still don't believe that Martinez regains the physical strength required by a GGG fight.
Sergio has the heart and the skills, but would be not enough after almost two years off.

I'd like to see Martinez/Murray II, either in the UK or on neutral ground. The last one was too close to call, so it's gotta be Golovkin or Murray.

I don't believe he'll b the same after a lengthy hiatus...injuries and father time has taken it's toll & some hungry guys out there...if some chance Alvarez beats FM he can get in the mix...can't c Sergio v GGG...

If Martinez even has 60-70% left of himself I think he beats GGG. If he comes back shopworn, old and physically beat up, then he will get stopped by GGG. Either way, it's good to have the premier MW on the planet back in the ring....it is a long wait though lol
