It was actually something like 2 months after when it was officially confirmed, but rumors about the signing started circulating within a week or two of the result. Hopkins fought De La Hoya in September of 2004, and the official press release stating that Hopkins had signed with GBP came out in November.
Your probably right about the official announcement,, but i swear it was like the following wednesday that everyone was talking about it,,,,,
I doubt he did! Anyone who wonders about a well place kidney or liver shot really needs to get to a gym and someone there will "show you"!!
You are paralized for as much as a minute in some cases and the pain is at a high level even for people with high tolerances!
You will see most fighters stuck with their knees on the canvas as they try to rise like Oscar did but can't!! You'll also see their feet kick trying to get up but the pain is intense. Ray.
Arum accused Oscar of taking a dive against Hopkins. Erik Morales also said Oscar took a dive. I do remember back then when the fight was over many people thought that the whole fight was a big farce and that Oscar took a dive. Even today when I talk about that fight with people lots of fans still have doubts over that fight.
I mean a precise body shot to the liver and you'll go down no matter how tough you are....but was Oscar in pain or did he take a dive?
I have always thought he did. If you are sound of mind enough to pound the canvas in frustration from supposedly being in too much pain to continue, he should have been able to get up. How many pro's pound the canvas after a fight ending body shot?
Did Virgil Hill when Roy failed him?
Did Castillo when Hatton creamed him?
Did Macklin when GGG landed that beast?
NOPE.
STAGED KO. Hopkins don't even go to the body on a normal basis.
I don't think it was anything corrupt. More likely De la Hoya would rather say he got hit with a great shot than admit to being dominated over a whole fight (which is what was happening).
