Boxing is a science,no a bar room brawl

It amazes me how so called fans call a fighter boring and a runner when they use the "SWEET SCIENCE" Using angles, timing and thinking. Not just going balls to the wall and just swinging like some drunk in a pub..sure that may excite you but that does not lead to a long career.Boxing is hitting and not getting hit, thats how you prolong your career. There is a reason why at 48 Hopkins is still a world champion,He ignored the crowd and fought his fight. Now you have promoters getting mad because they have fighters who actually box and don't go out there fighting like a damn idiot. It seems like people have lost the meaning of boxing and don't understand the sweet science anymore

Being boring has nothing to do with the sweet science, some guys just aren't interested in entertaining the paying audience so they end up with a small fan base and nobody interested in watching them fight

That's cool and all but tell that to certain boxers who want to play it safe in the ring by not engaging and on the defensive for the majority of the fight who want to complain that they aren't getting the exposure or making the money that they feel they should be making.

Nobody is asking a boxer to abandon boxing and just swing for the fences. They just have to understand that if you're not entertaining, then the paying fans won't come out to see u and as a result you're of no value to the promoters or the networks.

See a lot of people posting on these forums but rarely come across anyone who seems to know what they are talking about. Wonder how many here has even ever stepped in a gym or even talked to an actual fighter.people lack knowledge of boxing and it is sad

All I can say is too bad! Two guys fainting at each other for half the round and throwing a dozen punches is ***ing boring!!!! That sweet science saying is always paraded out to defend boring ass fighters that nobody wants to watch! Sorry but it's the risk that made boxing entertaining not the techniques. Seriously this is funny coming from a message board that finds wrestling and grappling boring and gay but two guys just sitting in the Philly Shell for long stretches at a time not throwing any punches yeah thats supposed to be entertaining. Pfft!!!

Dude stop that!!! Suddenly you have to be a former boxer in order to make observations about boxing? So why have a boxing message board or ESPN or HBO commontators for that matter if only "Boxers" can tell you about boxing and make accurate comments?

Man you are an MMA fan, people look at that and think it is just 2 dudes grinding on each other....but if they had a clue they'd see the technique involved in that sport as well..it takes an educated eye to see what is going to,you fight for position to get to where you need to be
