Is Abner Mares the most underrated fighter in boxing?

No,Mares is very respected.Donaire had one hell of a run and knocked out many champions and he deserved the praise he got. Just because Rigo kicked his ass doesn't mean he was never any good. It shows what a great fighter Rigo is. Mares is an excellent fighter and most fans and experts know this. Mares is in almost all the top 10 pound for pound lists now.

Donaire's fought no one special but knocked out both Darchinyan and Montiel who were in the Top 10 P4P whilst Mares struggled badly with a worse version of Darchinyan and very arguably lost?

Mares is a good fighter who should be in the Top 10 P4P because he has a good resume but he's not that good IMO. He's struggled in a lot of his wins and looked underwhelming.

The two fights I think he looked P4P quality are the Moreno fight and the second Agbeko fight.

Yet those two wins for Mares are clearly better than those two wins for Donaire.

donaire fought no one special?? donaire gets so much hate on here eventhough he fought almost all the best guys in or around his division...he fought rigo when people said he would never do it and still he gets hated on...

agbeko wasn't ranked #1 when mares fought him and moreno fought mares at 122 for his paper 122 belt...montiel was the unified wbc and wbo bantamweight world champ after KO'ing hasegawa who was the #1 ranked bantamweight. so montiel rightfully earned the #1 spot...the win also put him in the top ten p4p...

and darchinyan was one of the best if not the best at flyweight..unified IBF and IBO champ, undefeated and donaire still remains the ONLY person to stop him...was upset of the year win for donaire...

I think he may have been underrated in the past but most people recognize him at the moment. He's also currently on most PFP lists. Mares is a legit fighter that takes on all comers. His maturation and improvement from the first Agbeko fight has been phenomenal. I would say he's appropriately rated as one of the top fighters in the sport. He probably wont be a big name in the mainstream though because of the weight classes he competes in.

I just feel Mares deserves more recognition and respect. More popularity then he gets.

he dioes deserve more. he's earned it with good action fights against guys who were supposed to beat him. dude is the first to win three divisional titles in something like, less than 18 months.

Mares is a very good fighter. The fight with Vic was so close that a lot of ppl had him losing it and the first fight against Agbeko was a disgraceful low blow fest.

He has improved and is the only legit challenger for Donaire and Rigo
