I remember watching Leonard, Hearns, Hageler, and Duran beating the hell out of each other when I was a kid. That got me hooked. I also remember watching guys like Ray Ray Gray on ESPN. I recall watching Roy Jones, James Toney, and guys like that when they were small time on Top Rank and Tuesday Night Fights. Other than Leonard-Hearns, Leonard-Duran, Leonard-Hagler, Hagler-Hearns, and Duran-Hagler, another big fight that stands out is Camacho-Mancini. I even remember watching Meldrick taylor dismantle Rockin' Robin Blake on Wide World of Sports. It's a shame the youth of today doesn't get exposed to the quality of boxing we did as kids other than showtime and HBO. I'm only 27 years old, but I can remember watching boxing several days out of each month, and they always seemed to be entertainig matchups. But it was the forementioned Sugar Ray, Hitman Hearns, Marvelous Marvin, and Hands of Stone that got me hooked.
When did you 1st get into Boxing?

Ive been watching boxing for as long as I can remember. My father has always been a big boxing fan, and I have a couple family members that are or were professional. The first fight I remember seeing was the Camacho/Paz fight in person.Comment

Since the days of Bomber Graham, Bruno, Mugabi, Conteh, Minter, McGuigan, Terry Marsh, Honeyghan etc and the big American fights on ITV involving Hearns, Duran, Leonard, Benitez, Holmes, Hagler, Pryor et al.
But I really fell in love with the game when watching Tyson coming through the ranks on Grandstand, Nigel Benn says that he was inpsired by Tyson in 1985 too. I remember Nigel Benn won the ABA final live on BBC then later that night Tyson beat Alfonso Ratliff live on ITV. Lol, those were the days. It's weird thinking back, BBC were following Mike Tyson and Mike Watson thinking they were about the same standard - having both only just missed out on the Olympics, but Tyson blasted through the ranks like a flash of lightning whereas Duff kept Watson fighting ****ty opposition and going totally unnoticed.
I loved watching Tyson and Benn KTFO everybody in 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1989, they were my ****ing hero's.
The first time I saw Eubank (or shall I say Eubanks) fight was on the BBC one time in 1988, on a Duke McKenzie/Michael Watson undercard - I think it was his first televised fight. He was fighting at light-middleweight and trash-talked Gary Stretch after the fight. I thought to myself 'Who is this guy? Walking around like he's a prince?'. He fought with his hands down and that was alien in Britain. Next time I saw Eubanks was about a year later on a Nigel Benn undercard live on ITV, fighting Anthony Logan who was well-known to British fight fans for giving Benn so much trouble in his previous fight - Eubanks leaped over the top rope before the fight and got a lot of recognition from that win.

I became a true fan in 1976 when Sugar Ray Leonard captured the gold medal.
I did see the Thrilla in Manila the year before, but nothing captured me as much as watching Ray Leonard's dazzling speed in the '76 olympics.Comment
