  • Is Texas the new Mecca of boxing?

    I think so.

I know there is always controversy in Texas but I think the best boxing fans in reside in Texas and I think there will continue to be fights here. In the last year Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio have all had big fights. Where else could Berto from Florida and Karass from Cally draw 9 thousand fans. Mikey Garcia and JuanMa fought in front of about 6k in Dallas and that was with one fighter from Dallas in a 4 round undercard. Houston drew a nice crowd for Donairre and let's not forget Canelo fought in front of 40,000 and Pacquiao in front of over 50,000 in Texas!

I think both GBP and TR are ging into Texas because the Hispanic community is growing exponentially and both have fighters that appeal to the fanbase. The crowd's are super hot and there are enough seats in arenas and cowboys stadium that you can charge people small prices to get into the fights.

I dont see it replacing Las Vegas, but I definitely believe San Antonio will be like the Olympic Auditorium in LA years ago.

They seem to love boxing there and draw big crowds but the refs/judges are always shady down there, that ref laurence cole I think his name is? Cant stand that ref. I think the barclays is the new mecca of boxing.

San Antonio has the best fanbase in terms of people filing in to see fights. Dallas isn't that great of a fight town. I went to JuanMa vs Garcia and the stadium was far from being packed.

Haven't gone to Houston yet but I heard those crowds are always great

Dallas had a crowd of about 6,000 and the main event was a guy from Puerto Rico and a kid from California and the co main event was unknown fighter from Mexico and unknown fighter from Nebraska. If you look at Tim Bradley's last fight in his home state after a ppv fight it only drew about 2,500.

I was shocked at home many people knew Keith Thurman. Outside of Omar Figueroa, he was the most popular fighter of the evening. I heard tons of "one time" chants and every fan I ran into was excited to see him fight.

Houston is a great fight town as well.

Personally I think it's Houston followed by San Antonio, as far as the best boxing cities in Texas.

                  That's a big misconception.

Outside of the Chavez fight, all of those bogus decisions were products of GBP.

That's the common denominator as those ridiculous decisions happen elsewhere but it seems GBP and Haymon are always involved.

                    I shudder at the thought.
