Floyd would have dominated 130-140 still, with some tough fights against Arguello and Pryor. Floyd wouldn't have gone up to 147 probably, same thing with Manny Pacquiao.

I think Duran is one of those guys who thinks Floyd is a defensive fighter. That dude is much more than that. Its his ring I.Q. His ability to make adjustments before ultimately dominating you. Take your weapons away, look into your eyes and know when your going to move, when your going to throw this punch, that punch. Floyd would through right leads, then duck down beneath the left hand. He did NOT duck if the punch wasnt coming back. He actually DID duck once in the 4th round. But other than that, like a psychic, he knew when the punch was coming, and when it wasnt, he didnt duck. I cant think of a time where I have EVER seen a boxer like Floyd and Duran was a quitter. He quit against SRL for not being able to hit him. Boy Floyd's style is ALLL Wrong for ww version of Duran. Old geezer is bitter that there are fighters of this era who are more skilled than what he was used to.

I'd rank the Welters all time like this:
1. Floyd - because of his defense, conditioning and chin.
2. SRL - fast, combo puncher and heart of a lion but limited Defense.
3. Hearns - lightning fast, and KO power, but lacked stamina.
4. Duran - tough brawler, but problems with speed and great boxers.
5. Pacman - fast, good power, but would be outclassed by all the guys above him, imo.
Edit: Modern day. Obviously SRR was right up at the top but I can't comment on him because I didn't see him outside of some highlights.

Another thing, Esteban DeJesus, Ray Leonard and Wilfred Benitez all boxed circles around Duran and none of them was as hard to hit, as skilled or as smart as Mayweather. Floyd would have frustrated the hell out of him. A prime and in shape Duran probably would've given Floyd a tougher time than anybody in today's era has, but Floyd would've just been too hard of a puzzle for him to solve. Nearly every time Duran went up against someone with comparable skill to Floyd he came up short and usually by some distance too, so anyone who thinks he would have just dominated or beat Floyd easily is just foolish.
Duran:
He wouldn’t last against me,” said Duran through an interpreter. “He’s not a bad guy, but he has a big mouth. I know how he fights and everything he does. He’d have nothing to teach me.”

P
Pbf is a great figther but he has taken fights that are safe even now Alvarez not at 154 is not like PBF doesn't have a title there or has never fought anyone at that weight. Now for people to critizize his opinion thats just him. I do believe PBF deserve a los to Castillo 1.
PEople need to stop being so biased

Exactly. Anybody who had Oscar tied in that fight or anyone who thinks Oscar won, I immediately tune out as either biased or ignorant. For those wanting to pin a defeat on Floyd, go back to the Castillo fight, but even that one, I'd score it as a draw worst case, and Floyd was fighting with a bum shoulder, and Floyd won their next fight to eliminate all doubt.
Floyd won't be truly appreciated until after he is gone, but kids 10-20 years from now will look back at his era the way kids look back at the SRL's, Duran's and Hearns' careers. May and Pac are living legends, and they'll get their due respect down the road; especially Floyd. He'll retire the all time PPV King, and possibly 50-0, and as the greatest defensive fighter to ever lace them up.
That puts him in the top 5 ATG P4P conversation, imo.Last edited by jimboinbigd; 07-28-2013, 02:03 PM.

Floyd wouldn't have gone to 147......maybe to fight Leonard. But he'd would make it a fantastic 5 instead of a fabulous 4.
