  • When you watch Matthysse fight

he throws ot of punches, holds and hits, and he holds your head down and even throws punches while he is holding you down. It's a mixture of "illegal" and "if you can get away with it" type punches so I won't call it dirty, but it's damn near close. Matthysse does those things to get you out of your game so that you will brawl.

The one thing that Matthysse does well is that he has good vision while trading with you. Matthysse can't box, and that's just the bottom line no matter what his fans say, but now he is constantly punching which makes up for his lack of pure boxing. His jab is a range finder more than anything.

In terms of his punches he doesn't care where he lands when he fights a decent boxer. He's strong, he comes in good condition now, but if he can't hit you with his straight shots, his shots are almost winging arm punches. And because he has heavy hands, those wild shots sometimes are not seen by his opponent and do land. Against a consummate pro, they will exploit that.

Matthysse also does something that James Toney did very well. He gets back to center ring and never follows you when he tries to trap you on the ropes. He knows how to cut the ring off. He starts his attack center ring pushing you back.

At times he is a decent body puncher when he commits like he did against Soto, but then he can become a head hunter. He's not an inside fighter, but he does want to trade. Matthysse is more fast than slow if you know what I mean in boxing terms. He can be explosive or at times hesitate too much.

The last thing I'll say is that Matthysse now knows how to get in shape for a fight. At one point he never went past 4 rounds for a while. He has to stay consistent with his conditioning He was in good shape for the Judah fight, and looked tired in the Alexander fight-imo.

I'll do Danny Garcia in the next few days, but these are my real observations of Matthysse.

How do you think Danny will respond to the rabbit punches? I thought Matthysse threw in some pretty nasty shots to Pederson that definitely took him out of his gameplan. Pederson said those shots also made him dizzy.

I hope Matthysse implements this gameplan against Danny and all future fighters. I've read this is a very frustrating tactic. If he's not getting warned, I hope he continues it.

peterson was trying to hold so matthysse punched him. great strategy. if he hit the back of the head oh well the ref should take points off for holding but he's not because he's a yes man.

Look people are picking Matthysse to beat Mayweather at this point. The fact that he is a moderately athletic moderately skilled fighter means nothing to the people juggling on his nuts. He's Godzilla. Don't argue.

              Oh where to begin....

The left hook he landed on Peterson was not a straight shot. What kind of power did it carry?

I'm confused, because he has heavy hands, that makes his punches harder to see? Are you sure it's not because he sets his shots up and has you defending for an entirely different punch than what he's going to throw?

He's actually a better boxer than his detractors would lead you to believe. He's not Floyd but he's as good of a boxer as Pac and has better defense than Pac. He catches a lot punches with his gloves and rolls with punches that land.

Very much, people act like he just goes into him kamikaze style like Margarito's steel chin did, he's patient, smart, and efficient. He's the fucking machine.

Don't take anything this clown has to say with a grain of salt. He has a clear agenda.

He just like the other folks picking Garcia have just seen most of Lucas's fights recently. They don't know what problems he had, and what adjustments he made progressively through the years.
