Comments Thread For: Ellerbe Non-Commital on Mayweather vs. Garcia/Matthysse

One obvious incentive for featuring the Danny Garcia-Lucas Matthysse fight on the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Canelo Alvarez pay-per-view undercard is to have Mayweather fight the winner if he overcomes Alvarez.

No matter who wins, Garcia-Matthysse can’t miss in terms of entertaining fans. And having them perform before consumers who might not otherwise have seen their fight could help build Mayweather versus the winner into a more profitable fight.

But when asked Thursday how much of a factor showcasing a potential opponent for Mayweather was in getting Garcia-Matthysse made for Sept. 14 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Mayweather adviser Leonard Ellerbe chuckled before offering an evasive response.

If he wasn't going to commit to Saul Alvarez, why the hell would he commit to the Matthysse-Garcia winner?

I do think the winner of that fight is the best option for Mayweather after the ginger gets whooped.

I don't think any of these two pose a bigger threat then Ginger.
I would like to see Floyd fight GGG at 154.

I know Mayweather doesn't care much about belts, but he'll move to 140 for this one. having three ring belts at once would tempt any legacy-conscious fighter.

of course they wouldn't move a fighter up two divisions to fight Alvarez if he were to win...

but on a serious note who would Alvarez fight if he DID win...other than mayweather rematch? I'm pulling for Canelo in this one, the upside for him is huge and a lot better than seeing Mayweather fight 4 more times. There doesn't seem to be a big fight for Floyd that could be made or that he would take.

Hey Canelo can face the winner of the JWW guys and beat up another 140 pounder(Josesito Lopez)! He is going to have to find something to do after he loses to FMJ. He is slow as Christmas morning. I'd be surprised if he lands 80 punches the whole fight

Neither guy could come close to make things interesting against Floyd.
