Why didn't David Price heed Lennox Lewis's advice?

    Price cost himself the rematch.

Here's a video from last week's Ringside. Lennox clearly stated that Price needed to set up his attacks with the jab and be patient; he had to learn to win 'ugly'.

What's hilarious is that Price is interviewed on the same show, and says he's "learnt so much from Lennox". Evidently not.

Also, Price has been in attendance at several Wladimir fights [Mormeck, Haye] - did he learn nothing watching the champ? Is he that vacant that he thought power alone would take him to the top?

The guy is an idiot and his promoter, well, he's an ungrateful midget. Blaming Lennox (one of the greatest HWs of all time and his cash cow) for Price's defeat is disgraceful. It isn't Lennox's fault that Price has a paper chin and no brain.

What is it with some of today's heavyweight's? There's a blueprint there for tall fighters...

It must have been embarrassing for LL, watching his student ignore every piece of advice given and revert to type.

To quote Tyson Fury, Price is a 'stiff idiot'.

IMO it was all too little too late.

LL advice was spot on and if Price had stayed behind his jab (more klitschko-esque) and used better ring craft he could of avoided being bullied against the ropes.

Edit: Just sat and watched the fight again and Price was blowing hard by the end of the 3rd round so stamina was clearly an issue here.

Also, WTF was LL doing shouting advice from ringside whilst dressed in his nice suit? If he cared that much he would have been in the corner with him. Don't understand that at all.

Movement and jab were ok for Price in the first 2 (maybe 3) rounds but he failed to make thompson respect his power (excluding the fortunate knockdown). TT has his hands by his waist for most of the fight and Price didn't advantage with his shaky jab.

    Slightly Off-Topic:

I think this is good news for Fury, once Haye beats him, you will see Fury v Price and if Fury wins then Fury vs Thompson.

I would like to see Thompson vs Wilder

You're a stiff idiot for rationalizing the stiff idiot winning a fight he was clearly never cut out for.

Offering up 3-1 odds on Price winning. LMAO. You Brits are so blinded by nationality that you couldn't make a fair judgement of one of your fighters if you lives depended on it.

Because he was another over hyped heavyweight hopeful. Tony Thompson wouldn't win jack s**t in the 70's or the 90's, he'd be a contender, sure.

But this just shows David Price was another over hyped Brit, who was good at domestic level early on, no offense. There's plenty like that at heavyweight in the US too. S**t, I was high on Price early on too.

Can't wait for Scott vs Chisora.

Are you talking to me? No-one here has suggested he should of won or has tried to rationalize him losing. And I haven't offered any odds on anyone? I didnt think Yoz was from the UK?

Oh and your way off base with the fair judgement comment, David Price stopped being overated by the media here after the first thompson fight. Sure, some gave him a chance in the rematch but personally (and talking as a brit) I'm not surprised by the result at all.

DP is/was a terrible excuse for a HW contender and I can't say Im bothered if he fights again or not. Amir Kahn is another Brit boxer I don't have much time for so ditch the 'Biased Brits' comments and close the door on your way out.

          Yep agreed.

Scott vs Chisora should be good.

What's funny to me is that people thought having Lewis in the camp for 3 weeks would somehow make a huge difference - it didn't have any great impact at all because it was too short a time to implement core changes. He would need to be training with Lewis for minimum 6 months to really benefit. 3 weeks isn't doing anything for anyone. But one way of looking at it is that Price lasted until round 5, instead of being KOd again in round 2 - maybe Lewis slightly contributed in making him 2.5 times better than before.. lol

              Most likely.

              Anyway, Price is finished.

You cant change a guy in a few months. The fight went exactly as Thompson said; Price may have come in with a different gameplan, but once he got punched it was right back to who he is naturally.

Lennox would need to put in years to try and see some visible results in Price's game.

Anyway, the better man won tonight. Respect to both guys.

I think that LL tried to make price meaner. at times it looked like price is trying to imitate lennox in those exchanges.

lennox liked to mix it up. price tried to do something similar but it looked very bad.
it seems that price just has too many flaws.

Maybe he is but maybe not. One things for sure - it was a huge mistake taking the immediate rematch, Price's mind wasn't right, he was showing signs of real nerves from before the first bell. The last fight was still fresh in his mind. If he'd taken a tune up or two before the rematch there's a chance he could have fought much smarter and with a lot less nervous energy. But I always thought Thompson was underrated since the first Wladimir fight - he was competitive with Wlad for many rounds which showed glimpses of his true potential.
