According to the polls here most did give cotto the win, I'm just used to seeing people harp about that fight being a robbery but negative nancies are the more vocal ones

Mayorga isn't a particularly special win, just a fight against a faded name, something all fighters do. Margarito wasn't what he once was, but neither was Cotto. That fight needed to happen and there were plenty of people picking Margarito to win the rematch.

The correct answer to this is Shane Mosley, fellas. But contrary to what the TS is implying, I think Cotto was an underrated fighter. Even Mosley himself said that he was "destined for greatness", but that came to a halt when he fought Marg. Then there was Pac who ruined him even more. Cotto's prime ended the night he fought Marg.

When a fighter gets to the end of his career he can be very inconsistent. Good nights and bad nights. Shane Mosley is the definition of that. He didn't look good against Cotto IMO.

For me Cotto's defining win was against Ricardo Torres. By default. He doesn't really have an Earth shattering win. Very good career. But no signature victory.

I thought he looked good against Cotto. Hell, the fight was so close you could even argue it was a draw. Just watch the fight again and compare it to Shane's performance against Mayeather, you can easily see that Mosley still had it when he fought Cotto.

I think his defining wins were vs Torres ( showed his heart as never seen before that), Judah ( breakout win onto major level) Mosley ( was his official I have arrived ). Margarito 2 was huge for miguel himself just to exorcise those demons. Then we have victories over countless former champs and he wrecked all of them ( check on boxrec.com). Cottos legacy will be that of a warrior who NEVER ducked anyone. It's almost a tragic story Bc who knows where he might be had that cheating b***h Margarito never fought him w loaded gloves the first time. And for those of you who say oh that's bs, the pictures of the red ink show everything not to mention if you saw the interview with Lampley/Kellerman/ the Late Emmanuel Steward they all believe there's no doubt he used them and in process diminished a fighter in his prime. And I'm sorry to bring that up Bc I know it's not he topic but I just get so pissed whenever I think about that night.

Cotto is a very good fighter, who was vastly and still is overrated by many though.

Jose Luis Castillo has a better resume of wins in my opinion, and even Diego Corrales is right up there with him. Seriously, just look at the wins for those three guys.

Castillo's resume is horrendously underrated. He'll get into the HOF though.


I agree though I definitely think Mosley is his best W, as close as it was.
