Yeah, he needs to step it up against a big name opponent if he wants to be mentioned along with Martinez and GGG. A match up with Chavez Jr. (politics aside) would definitely put some rear ends in the seats.
Haymon fighter isn't he? He'll be "built up" and looked after in terms of opponents.
I'd rather see them put him in with someone like David Lemieux (who has a Promoter who has worked with GBP before) than Daniel Jacobs at this time. Jacobs is just getting his feet wet again and needs time to get it all back.
Plus the Lemieux power dynamic would make it very interesting for the first few rounds.
1. Vera
2. Chavez Jr.
3. Rubio
4. Gary O’Sullivan
5. Max Bursak
6. Hamid Rahimi
7. Lukas Konecny
8. Danny Jacobs
9. Les Sherrington
10. Matt Korobov
Chavez/Vera are supposedly in negotiations. Rubio has a WBC fight on 7/27. O'Sullivan is fighting Billy Joe Saunders on 7/20. Bursak defends his EBU belt on 7/13. Konecny got a fight on 7/13.
I think it's too soon for Jacobs to be getting a title shot. I think he should fight the winner of Mora/Proksa next, then Bursak/Konecny. Sacrificing Jacobs to Quillin seems like a ****** move to me.
I'm a big kid chocolate fan, but I think it's time for him to face some big names. They built him up to 29-0, now it's time for him to face someone noteworthy. as long as it isn't GGG, I don't want to watch quillin get destroyed by another one of my favorite fighters
Quillin is very talented. For a fighter with such a limited background, he has done very well and deserves some credit. That said, I am ready to see him in against another champion.
Quillin is screwed if 3G captures all of the other belts, which is a likely possibility. HBO is making Geale/Barker (IBF) with the intention of matching up the winner against GGG.
I'm a big Quillin fan, one of my 5 favorite fighters....the guy has some funny youtubes, is quirky, likable, and interesting. That said, I'm not keen on his turning down GGG from what I've heard. Sometimes there is more to the story......I would hope so.
