Cutting weight in training camp is a humongous burden. You get all of your energy from food, and if you have to focus on losing weight, then it takes away from your training. Canelo already has trouble making the weight because he rehydrates 17 pounds on fight night. That means his natural weight is around 170.

2 pounds in this case is a huge difference, and Floyd knows it. That's why he asked for the catch weight. If it didn't matter, Floyd wouldn't have allowed this blow to his credibility. It absolutely matters.
did you say same when manny fought cotto?

And those guys would receive grotesque paydays.
It seems like they're already planning a rematch. I don't blame them. So much money to be made.

The actual problem, now, is that Canelo is still growing and can't easily make even 154...
why do people keep saying canelo has trouble making 154?? he weighed 153.5 in his last bout

really? so moving up five weight classes is standard operating procedure? you know why hes concerned about the weight

I'll answer - they were old, broken down fighters who were past their prime.
because he didnt have a choice against either ... oscar called the shots and cotto had just turned down a lucrative offer from manny to fight below 154

Floyd has punked himself badly here. I don't know why people try to defend it. I think he beats Canelo comfortably no matter what the weight is. Team Mayweather obviously aren't as confident.
the real reason mayweather is making canelo come down is because canelo has to bring something to the table in this fight besides some gifted titles

canelo has one legit win and no PPV resume ... he took the easy road to get the big fight, floyd likely resents that and made him pay for it

at least you acknowledge what it is. a blatant tactic to gain an advantage for floyd... granted, canelo is a BIG 154lber, so i understand the concern.
absolutely. my boy reloaded is catchiing a load of **** for going HAM on the manny CW. And its no secret I've been very critical of the 145 my self yet I said it would be the same when floyd did it.

i don't think its even about Canelo's size. It's about floyd's age. Expect to see another CW and rematch clauses moving forward. His team knows that at this age floyd can "get old" any second. The first hint was the black eye in sparring.

              1) That's why he gassed later in the fight?

              2) Canelo is good... He's very good...

              3) Canelo has no PPV resume -- that's precisely why Oscar wants to pass it from Floyd to Canelo... This is business...

doesn't matter. if canelo can get down to 154 or under when he steps on the scale then he's fine. Can't penalize someone who is "genetically gifted."

Exactly. Put the up and comer on the PPV undercards....this has been done for ages. Chavez and Trinidad were on Tyson's cards. Pac and Morales on Delahoya's

It's a tried and true method.

Make the first fight a draw or a "no contest" or a "highly questionable split decision" and one has a over hyped rematch...

Be honest with yourself. Do you really think Floyd cares what Canelo has done? As long as he's getting paid.

If Floyd really resents that Canelo has reached this stage so early, the place he'd hit him would be the money. And Im sure he's done that.

The weight is all about the threat that Canelo poses in the ring as opposed to Floyd's other 154lb opponents who were not young, strong and fresh.
