How big was Froch's fanbase when he fought Taylor? There's a reason why he wanted to establish himself against a big name in the U.S. on Showtime, because he wasn't that big a star in the UK. He said himself that he didn't get the exposure he deserves, it's only after the super 6 that he became a star.
He gets as much credit for taking the Bute fight as Judah does for taking the Garcia fight.
Guys who don't have much time left almost never turn down a big opportunity when they receive it.Comment

Oh you don't.. Hmm, I'm sure Froch would have made more money had the fight sold 10k.
Other than that, I remember Taylor saying he was fed up of press conferences where there was one or two journalists there and that's why he took the Froch fight. And what other options did Taylor have at the time? Not many, if i'm remembering correctly. So Froch was just as big a fight for Taylor as the other way around,
Froch is openly speaking about Ward being the best and saying it's a very hard fight for anyone. Fact is, other than hardcore fans, nobody really knows Ward's name. The broadcasters aren't interested and the casual fan certainly isn't either. Anyone of the 4 I mentioned would probably get better ratings and better fights (maybe not hopkins) than the Ward fight.
And Froch is the cashcow in the SMW division at this moment in time. He and Kessler are the only ones fighting on PPV, so i'm safe in saying that Froch is indeed very relevant in the division, though he isn't #1. But at this stage of his career, I really don't think anybody cares too much.Comment

I have asked this before and I shall keep asking until someone answers the question. I recently re-watched the Kessler-Ward fight and I would like you to point when all the supposed head butting that was going on. I bet you cannot find more than one that Ward should have lost a point on. As far as the clinching is concerned Ward was actually moving his hands on the inside while Kessler stood there looking as confused as hell while trying to figure him out. And at the time I was actually rooting for Kessler to win.Comment

The point is they both took fights they didn't have to take against big names when they were at a low point in their career. That's what fighters in their position do.

A low point? Froch hadn't repeatedly lost the biggest fights of his career for almost a decade. He had more options than Judah. It's quite a horrible comparison. You might as well compare him to current Mosley.Comment

Bute was under contract with Showtime -- which was paying Bute $1.5 million in order to fight Ward... Ward immediately broke his Showtime deal, dismissed Bute and went to HBO... Then Dirrell and B-Hop (Ward's friends) called Bute! But Bute took the Froch fight in the UK (with Showtime even refusing to pay Bute)... After Froch KO'd Lucian, Ward said: "I should have taken the Bute fight"...

OK buddy. If you think during Calzage's decade long reign as super middleweight champ, Ottke was the better guy, that's on you. But if a poll is taken among historians. I'd say that historically Calzage will rate a lil bit higher than Ottke P4P and as a super middleweight. #sarcasimComment
