  • Comments Thread For: Abner Mares is Ready For Mikey Garcia, Rigondeaux

WBC featherweight champion Abner Mares (26-0-1, 14KOs) is ready to fight any of the champions or other top fighters at 126-pounds. Mares watched Mikey Garcia's four round destruction of former two division champion Juan Manuel Lopez. Mares would love to face Garcia (32-0, 27KOs), but their promotional situation would prevent that fight. Mares is with Golden Boy Promotions, while Garcia is handled by Top Rank - and the two companies rarely do any business together.

We can hope but none of these fights are happening and without names like Garcia/Mares/Rigo/Donaire fighting each other the FW division is a bit drab...admittedly Rigo hasn't moved up yet and Donaire hasn't confirmed any moves.

Donaire v Garcia at 126? Both guys are on HBO, both guys are TR fighters, this could easily happen over the next 12 months.

yeah but then you got a trainers problem with that fight. Even though Garcia may not be Nonito's full time trainer so it has a chance but still, I almost think there is too much respect there for them to fight eachother

There was recent tension between Donaire and Robert....I'm just wishing it turns into something more and we get a real boxing fans dream fight in the division.

Would love to see this fight. I think Mares Vs Rigo Vs Mikey are all 3 toss up fights that would be great for the fans.

Yeah, unless there's a falling out, Donaire-Garcia will probably never happen. They're friends, and they share the same trainer. Nonito has addressed this question before.

Top Rank won't even make Garcia vs. Rigo.

No chance they make Mares vs. either.

                  Shame.

Donaire never trains in Oxnard though, and Robert only works with him for a very short spell before the fights. He 'trained' him for the Rigo fight over the phone. I don't know how strong the professional or the personal relationship is there to be honest.
