How good is this new Japanese middleweight who just signed with Top Rank?

Is he promising can he be a force at 160? Or is he like another Ishida minus the Kirkland coming out party?

I was thinking if this guys any good Arum can really milk him into an international star. Plus you got that Asian market that everyones been talking about.

Ryota Murata, he was a very succesful amateur and won gold in 2012 but personally I wasn't impressed with him particularly. Hes a pressure fighter with no power and seems to get shaken up everytime hes hit.

I don't think he'll go too far that said I don't think that Zou Shimming will either.


I haven't seen an awful lot of either but from what I have I wasn't impressed.

Good Japanese middleweights are as rare as good Japanese heavyweights.

No offense to Japan fighters because they have many great fighters, they just don't happen to weigh over 150 pounds.

I dunno Dan, from what I seen he's got some decent skills and under rated power. The kid fights like a pro and works the body well.. I seen him in the worlds a couple of years back and in the Olympics and liked what I seen!

That being said he was shaken up by that Brazilian a couple of times in the final, but that guy hit like a horse and had great whiskers! He hurt Ogogo even worse than Murata too, nearly stopping him!

I agree that Shiming probably isn't going anywhere though! Too old and too amateurish!

I think you underestimate what being an Asian superstar means my friend. They could LITERALLY fight bums for the rest of their careers and be undefeated. I'd be shocked if Shiming fights anyone worth a **** for the next 10 years.

He was pretty enjoyable to watch in the Olympics. I felt he could have got a silver or gold, but style wise, I liked how he walked people down and kept throwing, going for the body. His stamina was good for an amateur.

Power wise, I think may be better for him since no headgear and smaller gloves will help him IMO. I don't remember how he took a punch but if TR move him up at the right place, that will be good.

Oh and Bob must have offered him good money. I read that he doesn't want to turn pro or box any more I believe.

Um he may be racist, but what he said isn't exactly racist. For all we know Arum could be following the Chris John route with Shiming, it seems like he's not focusing on America anymore.
