GTFO!!! Every era in boxing, has a fighter who keeps the sport afloat. You had the SRL era, the Ali era, etc. After Mayweather and Pacman, it will be Chavez Jr, Canelo, and Broner. Both Chavez and Canelo are HUGE, and getting bigger. Broner is slowly about to expload, if he keeps up on this path. MMA doesnt even have a fighter of THIS era that will do for their sport, what Floyd is doing. The biggest stars they have are Silva, Jones, and GSP, and no one even watches their fights LOL

I agree with the first half about boxing staying afloat..

i disagree about nobody watching mma guys,,,

      2 different sports.
      2 different business formats.
      both are highly successful..
Ufc has only been around for 20 years so it has no where near the legacy of boxing, but one day it will....

Floyd Mayweather jr is the biggest name in the sport today..should he be credited with boxing's resurgence?
        not at all.

it was actually pacquiao who saved it when floyd retired with his exciting ko victories of diaz, oscar, hatton, and cotto. then floyd came back and tried to bogart what pacquiao did shamefully during pacquiao vs cotto by announcing a fight vs marquez at a catchweight.

No, it hasn't! Boxing, like hockey, soccer and track and field, has never been a mainstream sport, even when it appeared on network television. However, it has not lost any of its popularity over the years, so no one can be given credit for a fictional resurgence.

            NO!
He should be given credit though for his fight ducking and cherry picking ability. Hands down he is the biggest coward in boxing history and deserves all the props for this!

Calzaghe didnt fight in the US as much as Floyd. Most boxers in the US arnt quick to jump on a plane and fly to another country either. Its no question the most of the top opposition is in the US...where Floyd has been!
So IMO....yeah, hes worst than Calzaghe!

My point is, they will never catch up at this rate. Canelo, Chavez, and Broner will DEF make sure of that. MMA doesnt have any fighters prepared for what these three boxers are about to do within the next several years.
