Floyd Mayweather jr is the biggest name in the sport today..should he be credited with boxing's resurgence?
No! He's the best but his fights are never exciting, action packed or nothing. Just him schooling dudes. Plus boxing fans wanna see either a war or a ko and u won't get either in a Floyd fight. I respect his skills and craft but I throw fight parties all the time and the lamest 1's as far as atmosphere goes in the parties are the Floyd fight parties.

      Credited for what?

That's the biggest flomo-driven crock I've ever heard.
The sport was thriving when he was on retirement.
He made a stinking mess when he came back.

Don't these worshipers ever use their brains or what?

By fight party, you obviously mean you, your sister and your mother.

He brought the masses to the floyd fight and turned floyd from a boxing star into a mainstream star

Then oscar did the same with manny...

Without oscar, Floyd is still a 300,000-400,000 ppv buys fighter like he was with baldomir, zab, gatti...

Manny would probably be still at the lower weights...

Getting victories over oscar propelled both guys into superstardom, much like how oscar fought old chavez and propelled him into superstardom

Hopefully manny and floyd will pass the torch one day....
Floyd vs canelo is a good start
Great Post!!!!! Oscar started the resurgence when he was in the Olympics. He had the look the skill, and especially with the story of fighting for his mother captured the public eye.

When he went pro after the Olympics he was able to draw the casual fan like not other, and the female fan.

Floyd was catapulted after fighting Oscar, Oscar was on the end of his career and Floyd has now taken over the dates that Oscar used to reserve in May and Sept.

I completely agree Floyd would still be an average draw without that exposure, he had never done the numbers prior to that fight.

Floyd is not as popular and loved the way Oscar was.

Oscar was also smart and has done well running one of the biggest fight promotions in the world!
