The writing was on the wall though. After the Pascal fight, he was bitter, blamed the ref, blamed his trainer, pointing his finger at everyone. After all, he was Chad Dawson. How could he possibly do something wrong?
A couple wins later he thinks he can go down 7 lbs and challenge Ward. He probably does not train enough, sweats off most of the weight, was hurt in sparring, but demanded his easy work fight against ward. They get him to the weight, he gets his a$$ handed to him as he does not even appear to be focused not only in the fight, but even the ring entrance. Of course it is not his fault. Fires his trainer, blames the weight loss, points more fingers.
Then comes last night. Had to google his "opponent" to find out who he was. Took him lightly, considered him nothing more than a tuneup to make him look good. Promptly gets starched. Blames the ref, probably blames Montreal, his trainer, his wife and kids also. He will not blame himself though. Not Chad Dawson. He probably googled Stevenson again after the fight last night to make sure everyone around him was not lying to him.
To that i say. Good Riddance.
It's all mental with Chad. He is blessed with physical gifts, but the problem is he's not mentally tough both in and outside the ring. When he beat Adamek, he had the making of the next great lhw, but I started to see signs of his poor attitude when he fired Floyd Mayweather Sr two weeks before a scheduled fight.
He's been underachieving since the Adamek fight, he hasn't done a whole lot to raise his stock the last four years. His poor decisions such as constantly changing trainers, combined with getting dumb fights (the Ward and Tarver fights) makes me wonder if he wants to be the best. And at the world class level you have to be at the top of your game in every fight, there is no excuses, and Dawson doesn't have the mental grit to be a great fighter. You are right he's done.Last edited by Boxingwizard; 06-10-2013, 06:18 PM.
