Even Chavez wasn't that good but I understand that fight from a monetary perspective.

Barker, Macklin and Murray brought nothing like that to the table and were little more than cherry picks. And Sergio is one of my favourite fighters.

Pirog, Golovkin and Quillin were/are better matcups.

you do know that Martinez offered Quillin a fight before Barker but Quillin turned him down? it's on Maxboxing.

plus Martinez will probably never fight Quillin because after turning down Martinez in private, Quillin publicly was talking smack about Martinez not fighting him.

Golovkin was in court for most of 2011 because of promotional problems with Universum. plus GGG was virtually unknown by the boxing public until recently

Pirog?? the guy who gets injured every time he signs a big fight? ha ok!

not sure if you know but Brits and Argentines don't really like each other, Falklands War and all that. did you hear the Argentines cheer when englishman Murray's name was mentioned?

Being English, yes I do. And I know you're not going to use that weak ass premise to justify those handpicked fights. You sound like Lou Di Bella who is an incredible hypocrite.

Martinez vs Golovkin in early 2014 sounds good to me

              it's totally true

              http://www.maxboxing.com/news/max-bo...llin-fights-on

Gomez states. "We’ve been offered the Sergio Martinez fight; we all agreed it’s too early.

              http://www.maxboxing.com/news/max-bo...veiled-at-last

this is what K2 says about GGG and why he didn't have more exposure before the Proksa fight

“One reason is that he had legal issues with the German promoter, Universum,” explained K2 Promotions managing director Tom Loeffler at a recent media luncheon. “It took him about a year-and-a-half to get out of his contract. He signed with us at the beginning of the year.”

i'll give you Pirog, I do sound a little like DiBella but Pirog killed his chances by never fighting outside of Russia and pulling out of every big fight.

so if you look at 2011-2012, who was Martinez supposed to fight?

Golovkin's team admits he had legal issues, Quillin wasn't ready, according to his team

Chavez and Macklin were top 5 when they fought Martinez in 2012

in 2011 Martinez had to fight Dzinziruk because HBO owed Dzinziruk a TV and Martinez wanted a pay check.

and really looking at the landscape Barker is no different than a Rubio or Andy Lee

Sturm wasn't going to fight outside of Germany

              Slyvester??

Geale circa 2011? because in 2012 Geale was busy with Sturm

it was a weak divison and Martinez fought the best avaliable. Macklin and Chavez were highly ranked and quality in 2012 and Barker was just about as good as anybody else in 2011.

              GGG and Quillin weren't ready

I wouldn't expect much for Martinez' return fight, considering he'll be coming off multiple injuries and he'll be 39.

personally I'd like to see him fight Cotto. Cotto deserves a crack at the middleweight crown and Martinez is his best shot. plus it's a good payday for both.

I agree. I think early 2014 is the perfect time for Mayweather-Martinez. Its now or never for that fight.

Pirog knocked out Danny Jacobs on HBO in America. Darren Barker had never fought outside of the UK or above European level. He was a handpicked opponent.

Golovkin and Quillin are ready now but they chose Martin Murray.

Golovkin couldn't sign with another promoter, it did not mean that he couldn't fight as demonstrated by him fighting during that entire period....

I remember the problem was that he wasn't allowed to fight in the US specifically until recently.
