FM: If I'm not mistaken, they came on record and said they wanted to meet at a catchweight [Following his November 2011 victory over Kermit Cintron, Alvarez stated, "It's what I want, the Mayweather fight. That's what we put on the table. I feel more mature and for that I am willing to go down to 150 pounds."], so we came up with 152 and both parties said we're comfortable with that. You're going to hear people criticize me and say, "You're doing the same thing Pacquiao is doing, fighting everybody at a catchweight." No I'm not because Pacquiao presents that to his opponents. Once again, these people brought this to me. They said, "Well, we'll fight Mayweather at a catchweight." That's all you had to say. You said that. I didn't bring that to you guys; you guys brought that to me. Once you brought that to me, then I said, "Well, we can meet in the middle." Then you said, "No, we don't want to meet in the middle. We want to meet at 152." So I said, "Let's make it happen!"
are you serious with that BS?

    seriously?

    you gonna use that defense?

All you critics out there talking about the catch weight need to shut your piehole
      1. Floyd never made mention of wanting to fight Canelo. It was the other way around
      2. When calling out a fighter at a lighter weight, you go to them. You dont ask them to come up
      3. Canelo is the B side fighter. He has never headlined a PPV to see what his drawing power really is
      4. There is no rehydration clause. He will still balloon up to 170 come fight night giving him a 20lb weight advantage
      5. Canelo actually said he would be willing to come down to 150 to fight Mayweather http://www.boxingscene.com/saul-alva...ther-jr--46563

Just leave it alone people. The fight is happening.

should be a good fight however and my money will be going on floyd.
Canelo asked for the fight at 150 http://www.boxingscene.com/saul-alva...ther-jr--46563

Mayweather never challenged him therefore there is no hypocrisy

Personally, I have no real problem with a CW if everyone's happy, it just makes a bit of a mockery to drag a guy down so he's possibly dehydrated and drained when you've been moaning about other people doing the exact same thing.

Then again, what did we expect from a man who beats women? He was hardly going to be a man of morals.
Stfu! The fight is made with both sides agreeing to the terms. Why are you crying like a b!@tc h!

I'm glad Floyd took this fight! I know his father disagrees with him fighting a 170lb. man, but he did it anyway. I hope to God it's his last MW fight. I think all the critics are making him do dumb things, next he'll stop asking for testing too.

The weight will be no problem for Canelo the guys 22 if anything it could make him sharper and as he says train harder. Floyd will have to accept the catchweight quotes from the past but being honest he won't care all i care about is that it's on and we see money twice in a few months!

Canelo said this 2 years ago. He pursued Floyd, not the other way around.

I don't know why everyone is surprised, Floyd has always been a hypocrite.

I can understand why he did it though, and i think the situation is a little different to Pacquiao Cotto. Canelo balloons to over 170lb's come fight night! Mayweather weighs in on fight night not far away from the WW limit, and if we're honest, could probably still fight at 140lb quite easily. He's not a big WW.

A same day weigh-in, or rehydration clause, may have saved him a little face though, and would probably had more of a negative effect on Canelo.

It was really unnecessary for Pacquiao to ask it of Cotto though- where as Floyd is trying to ensure he's not fighting a fighter with a 20lb+ weight advantage on fight night, I think Roach got into the habit of requesting it for psychological reasons, to have an advantage throughout the whole camp and to take a little bit of sting out of Cotto.

At the end of the day, what the fighters agree is up to them, and if they are happy it doesn't matter. My only complaint now (and at the time of Pac Cotto) is that it shouldn't be recognised as a valid title fight.
