The entire boxing world to sulaimen: Why is your ancient azz still involved in boxing? Old pathetic relics need to go the way of the horse and buggy. This jurrk doesn't mind boxers paying him sanctioning fees so he can live the high life, so maybe those same boxers need to just ignore his organization FNO. Or any boxing organization that tries pulling this crapola. Make a statement, fix the sport.
It's bad enough that boxing fans have to suffer through the common practice of having four beltholders at once, but that the WBC makes it nearly impossible to become undisputed champion in a division is a disgrace. The only way someone could become undisputed champ now if for them to win the WBO, IBF, and WBA belt and then, and only then, win the WBC belt. They'll be undisputed for all of five minutes. Disgusting.
The WBO doesn't want it's champions to unify belts either. (see: Pirog v. Golovkin/Geale debacle)
People should just forget about this whole "undisputed champion" bs. The only thing that matters is the top 2-3 ranked guys in each division fighting each other for lineal supremacy (it doesn't matter who carries what belt), everything else is irrelevant.
What really bothers me though is boxers winning vacant titles against nobodies and then calling themselves world champions or being advertized as such when other more qualified fighters are left in the shadows (simply because they can't sell tickets).
I am going to be in a minority, but I don't think it is a bad idea.
If the aim is to prevent titleholders holding belts for ages and not defending them then it should work.
Likewise if a contender works his way up to No.1, he shouldn't wait ages for a shot whilst the champion is either inactive or is defending against a contender from another santioning body.
To the big guns, the belts mean very little, but to upcomers they are desperate to become world champion and should not be held back through no fault of their own.
