Being the bigger name doesn't trump being the better fighter. Who said it does?

It can however influence the location of the fight.
A lot of posters here on NSB use this "Popularity = P4P, elite skill level etc supremacy" logic.

Look at my post on page 1, just as an example....... These type of "fans" the "business" fans I suppose you can call them, would ridicule anyone for mentioning Floyd fight GGG at 154 due to unknown-ness, yet those same fans would be perfectly fine with him fighting Cotto due to popularity, public appeal and amount of fans he brings. This may fool the general public into thinking it's a good fight, but in reality most of the hardcore fans realize that cotto does not have any more of a chance at beating Floyd just because he's more popular.

SOMEWHAT like the guys defending Quillin in that video thread about GGG. He literally said he's too much risk and doesn't wanna fight. Which is perfectly FINE, it is what it is...... But don't you dare put him on any P4P lists or anything similar, when he obviously doesn't want to or is not ready to prove that yet. Which I've saw a couple of same posters saying he's the #1 middleweight etc.

Maybe not the same thing exactly, but I think you get the point

I guess in today's boxing era, a lot of fighters aren't chasing legacy anymore, more chasing money. Which you can understand, it's their life and health..... But IMHO these same fighters should always have some type of asterisk above their name so that newbies don't get tricked by the misinformation of some fanboys/"business" fans still calling them absolutely elite and untouchable. If that makes sense. Because they probably are indeed beatable..

Lets look at some things here, Mares has beaten fighters he was favored to lose to. Ward came into the super 6 as an underdog. Mares isn't even a 130lb fighter, but he's competed in weight divisions infinitely better than Floyd's 147 lb division and beaten better fighters pfp than those Floyd beat.

You're supposed to look good with Floyd's resume. Mares should already be defeated and Ward wasn't supposed to win the super 6. Floyd was supposed to beat all them guys he's faced, big big difference.
Floyd suppose to beat everyone he faced because no one in the game have the skills that he possess.. Floyd Mayweather was not always favored in his fights until after he destroyed Corrales. Reason Mares and Ward are favored sometimes to lose is because they were perceived with enough flaws to be beaten while Floyd have a catalogue of ability. That's all there is to it... Just imagine a welterweight Mares or Ward, do you honestly believe either can beat Mayweather? If so, explain why..

Yeah I take your point. It bugs me to see certain fighters in the top half of PFP lists when everyone knows they've ducked the most legit threats. If you're the best prove it consistently against the best.
