OK, so he should be announcing his next opponent in the coming weeks. Below is my view of his options. I'm listing the most probable opponents first.
1. Amir Khan - ESPN's #6 Junior Welterweight. Would be a good draw since he has a name. He just won, but not in impressive fashion so he's vulnerable. Smaller guy who should be easy work for Floyd. Fairly safe pick, he's probably available.
2. Canelo Alvarez - ESPN's #1 Junior Middleweight. Don't care what anyone says, Canelo is a dangerous opponent for Mayweather. Would likely be the biggest of his last 5 fights not counting a rematch between them. The fight can be made but will Floyd take the risk?
3. Devon Alexander - ESPN's #6 Welterweight. Horrible fight from a commercial standpoint. With the shakiness in the PPV buys after Guererro fight, there may be pressure for his next fight to be a bigger name.
4. Erislandy Lara - ESPN's #4 Junior Middleweight. Fantastic boxer but a boring style. This would be a very interesting fight for boxing purists but it would be even worse commercially than Alexander.
Those are really the only options for Floyd around the September time frame in and around his weight class. It will boil down to his willingness to fight the most dangerous, yet biggest commercial option Canelo. Since Floyd's money is guaranteed, and assuming he isn't getting anything (or a smaller % on the back-end), where is his motivation to take tougher opponents?
