According to WBC featherweight champion Abner Mares (26-0, 14KOs), he could end up facing undefeated Puerto Rican contender Jayson Velez (20-0, 15KOs) in a co-featured bout on September 14th, if a main event match between Saul Alvarez and Miguel Cotto gets made on the date. Velez was scheduled to face than champion Daniel Ponce De Leon a few months ago, but withdrew with an injury. If all goes well in September, then Mares would defend his title in December, against mandatory challenger Robinson Castellanos (18-9, 11KOs), in Cancun, Mexico.
