Because that's what ATG's do, and he's being put on the pedestal as if he is the most skilled fighter of all-time (no joke). You telling me it doesn't translate from 122 to 126? He beat a 17-year-old Mares three years after he'd already won his first Gold, congratulations.

I happen to think Rigondeaux would do just fine at 126 - undersized and all - and may actually hold more esteem for his ability than a lot of his fans who want to see him finish out a quiet existence at super bantam. I pick him to beat Mares - 122, 124*, 126 - btw. None of that is the point, but he's likely going to find that the money, names and recognition from here on is a little bit north of where he's at.

why speak on fights that you know you have no chance of getting just based on the golden boy top rank crap........

would mares really be talking this much if he was signed to top rank and had to actually deal with rigo & donaire?

What makes you think Mares is a "What If I Lose?" fighter? He's talking about making fights while other guys are talking about why fights can't or shouldn't happen. I could see a point if he hadn't run through a gauntlet of top opposition across three divisions the last couple years but, uh, he has.

I'm about convinced that Bob Arum would be calculating enough to accept less than $1,000,000 because he would only co-promote in name recognition at the maximum and let ODLH carry the financial cost of media promotion. Top Rank might accept a 70-30 split just to ensure they benefit from securing the match at 122lbs. After Rigondeaux wins the decision it would only weaken Golden Boy Promotions' stable of champions

If Mares can take Ponce de Leon's best punch what makes people believe his chin won't be able to uphold a Rigo punch? Now I am a huge fan of Rigo and I was one of the Rigotards when he faced Donire but people saying he'd beat Mares just as easily are a bit biased. Why? Well because Donaire =/= Mares. Donaire is skilled at counterpunching and is gifted with huge power witht that massive left hook. Mares? Granite chin, can box with several style including pressure/come forward, counterpuncher, combination,etc... so at th end of the day I think Rigo will have a tougher time dealing with Mares's huge arsenal of styles. In my opinion this fight would be closer than everyone is lead to believe.

Ohh..and to those who think is only full of hot air and is talking big because of feeling protected behind his promotional company, think again. He aimed for the best of the best in his stable and won every match. He worked out a contract with GBP to fight for 3 mil vs Nonito which was turned down. So what makes people believe he's not willing to back his brk up if Top Rank was willing to let their fighters battle outside of their stable? Unlike the modern Boxers Abner is cut from an older cloth. He's here to aim for the best and knock them off the top spot. War.

I dont think Rigo would K.O Mares as easy as some of you guys because as skilled as he is he still doesnt have the pro killer instinct that hunger to hurt the other guy, but he wins by UD after a 12 round schooling if you have any other outcome then that then you're a Mares Fanboy and its understandable he's great hes just not on Rigondeaux level of boxing he's style is 10 times more made to order for Rigondeaux than Donaire's was that come forward Pressure **** would get him obliterated and what does he have left try to box Rigondeaux? -_- cmon.

You've given him too much credit by calling him "great". Abner has been smoking too much cilantro if he thinks his rock'em sock'em robot performance against wild swinging Ponce De Leon would hold even a candle against Rigondeaux. Abner is too one dimensional and too easy to hit.

Rigondeaux beats mares by UD but donaire vs mares would be a FOTY candidate.
