mares gets ko'd by ether 2 (rigo and donaire)
why speak on fights that you know you have no chance of getting just based on the golden boy top rank crap........
would mares really be talking this much if he was signed to top rank and had to actually deal with rigo & donaire?Do you all seriously not realize that fighters get interviewed and within the interview, they get asked questions? And these questions are usually about what fights they want. It's not like Mares contacted Boxingscene to talk **** about Donaire and Rigo.
How exactly do you want Mares to respond when being asked about potential fights? Do you want him to admit he can't beat them just because you believe he can't? Abner wasn't even disrespectful in his response. "If given the opportunity."
Seriously, we have a fighter here who WANTS to fight the best, STRIVES to fight his best and fans still find anything to complain about.Comment

The "come forward pressure ****" is what Donaire is abysmal at executing being a natural counter-puncher and it was the role Rigondeaux forced him into due to his superior generalship and footwork. Nonito made it ever more a walk in the park for Rigo because he can't fight on the front foot, and isn't comfortable pressuring nor does he possess the work rate to do it. Abner is more than comfortable in that role, and it would be interesting to see how soon Rigo's counters would bring a halt to his activity. He's certainly going to be a lot busier evading Mares' attack than he needed to be against Nonito.I dont think Rigo would K.O Mares as easy as some of you guys because as skilled as he is he still doesnt have the pro killer instinct that hunger to hurt the other guy, but he wins by UD after a 12 round schooling if you have any other outcome then that then you're a Mares Fanboy and its understandable he's great hes just not on Rigondeaux level of boxing he's style is 10 times more made to order for Rigondeaux than Donaire's was that come forward Pressure **** would get him obliterated and what does he have left try to box Rigondeaux? -_- cmon.Comment

I find it funny when people bring up the amateur fights too. I'm not going to act like I've seen them or anything, but just watch how Mares has grown since his first title shot against Perez or his fight against Darchinyan. He's improved vastly since then. He's not the same fighter he was in 2010...Much less 2003.Because that's what ATG's do, and he's being put on the pedestal as if he is the most skilled fighter of all-time (no joke). You telling me it doesn't translate from 122 to 126? He beat a 17-year-old Mares three years after he'd already won his first Gold, congratulations.Comment

Never said that. What makes you think Mares is a "What If I Lose?" fighter? He's talking about making fights while other guys are talking about why fights can't or shouldn't happen. I could see a point if he hadn't run through a gauntlet of top opposition across three divisions the last couple years but, uh, he has.
If he wants to fight Rigo than he has to be the one to push it. He has the name, the power and the fanbase. If he doesn't push for it it's not going to happen and that's a fact. It makes no financial sense for GBP to push it and Rigo can't demand **** from Arum because he's not a draw.Comment

I'm fine with people saying Donaire or Rigo will beat Mares but to say Mares isn't serious or isnt willing to fight these guys is straight out ******ed. The guy has faught Perez, Agbeko, Darchinyan, Moreno & De Leon in a span of 3 years. He obviously doesn't shy away from a challenge.Comment
